A couple of days ago there was news of the possibility of writer Mark Millar coming on board the now writer-less Superman: The Man of Steel movie. /Film picked up on a post he had made on a message board stating that there was the hint of talks between his representative and Warner Bros., but that’s all the meat there was to that story. He expressed how he would love to write the screenplay since he’s a huge Superman fan.
But today via SHH! come word that at least right now, the prospect of him writing the script or pretty much nil due to his association with Marvel Comics:

“Well, sadly, I’m a Marvel guy and we were surprised to find out that WB couldn’t hire me for a DC property. They were incredibly nice and superbly apologetic about it, but when they discussed the matter seriously DC explained just how associated I am with Marvel Comics at the moment and it’s against company policy to hire the competition. It’s absolutely nothing personal. I spoke to some friends at DC and they explained this has happened with a couple of big Marvel writers in the last couple of years and I absolutely respect that.”
Millar is very heavily associated with Marvel, being the architect of their “Ultimate” (and alternative) universe of superhero comics, which takes more of a “real world” approach to the genre. He’s also the guy who brought us the very divisive, political and extremely successful “Civil War” crossover event in the Marvel Comics world, which caused a schizm in the folks-who-wear-tights community over mandatory government registration and employment for those with super-powers. A significant side effect of that series is that in the comic book world, Tony Stark aka Iron Man is now pretty much a reviled character outside of his loyal fanbase.

Aww,man! I thought his script would’ve been good. Oh well.:-( Guess they’ll get someone else,hopefully soon and hopefully it’s still a revamp. This will probably go into development hell now.
This is just ridiculous,them not letting him write cuz he’s a “Marvel guy”. His script would be great as long as it isn’t an “Ultimate Superman” type story. I hate the Ultimate Marvel U.
Oh,yeah. He’s responsible for making everyone hate Iron Man,isn’t he? I’ll have to take some points off for that……..
Kel, I like some of the charaters of Ultimates universe and thought that Civil War was interesting, but is WB doing anything right with the DC comic movies other than Batman? Come on! First, they get a ‘worthy’ comic book writer turn screenplay writer whom is ecstatic about writing Superman’s sequel maybe even for FREE, but wave him away!?! Then create an interesting script plus a well established director for JLA, BUT then ‘pooh pooh’ on that by casting the Teen Titans? Sad…
Ok. I don’t hate ALL of the Ultimate Marvel U characters,I like Nick Fury. But that’s it.
Millar’s work on the Superman Adventures comic that was based on the Superman animated series is EXCELLENT,some of the greatest Superman stories I’ve ever read. i think his script would’ve been like his work on those Superman comix,personally,which would been great. I think a revamp is a good idea tho,just keep Routh,Spacey,and the John Williams’ theme and maybe the suit,and don’t make it into a STUPID Spidey/Mary Jane type love story. It doesn’t have to be a campy Lois and Clark romantic comedy style relationship story. Keep the action coming without constantly bringing in kryptonite,and re-establish Clark as the “real” guy with Superman being something he does,and Luthor as the more John Byrne-ish style industrialist.
Pray we don’t get Rupert Evans as Superman in JLA…..
Josh Duhamel would be cool as GL Hal Jordan in the JLA film,IMO. But they’re gonna use John anyway,but I can still dream,right?
And Civil War had it’s moments. One part I thought was particularly character driven for Cap was,although small and trivial,the part where he jumps outa the SHIELD HQ and lands on that plane and the pilot remarks “JEEZUS!”,and Cap says something like “watch the language and keep driving”. It was such a funny part and but it showed Cap’s character at the same time.
