They’re going to remake the 1968 Steve McQueen classic: Bullit.
No, this is not a joke.
Warner Brothers will be making the movie with Troy director Wolfgang Petersen, producer Joel Silver, and will be written by Cynthia Mort, whose past credits include writing and producing the sitcom Roseanne.
Can you imagine how this will go down? What, are they going to time the release of the film to coincide with the release of some newly redesigned Ford Mustang? Like they did for the BMW Z3 in the James Bond series? Maybe they can get Steven Seagal or hey, Brad Pitt(!!) to play the title character?
BTW, here’s a photo of the 2005 Mustang, which I don’t think will coincide with the release of the film:

Love the car. Hate the idea of a remake.
Ack.

I’ve heard that a new Mustang is in the works, so a strategically timed movie release wouldn’t surprise me a bit. Since Petersen is directing, my guess is that Brad Pitt will be cast, since he was in Troy. Most directors tend to use the same actors in every movie whenever possible. (Watch any Paul Thomas Anderson or David Mamet film and you’ll see what I mean.) Meanwhile, thousands of bright, struggling screenwriters have to wait tables for at least another few months because the Hollywood suits decided to “play it safe.” All this aversion to risk is supposedly because movies are so expensive to make, and yet the suits will sink $150 million into a remake without blinking, but an original idea with a $20 million budget will never see the light of day. Hollywood is in serious need of a wake-up call.

I’ve seen a concept for the anniversary Mustang. The commentator mentioned how it resembled the 60’s Mustang as seen in the Steve McQueen movie ‘Bullit’. The car shown is a very nice looking car that says ‘Mustang’. It resembles a 68 fastback.
– I think they had fastbacks in 67/68. I still wasn’t born then.
I don’t think the film will coincide with the release of the new Mustang, which yes, I think is amazingly cool looking. The new version will be out next year.
I’ve updated the article with a photo of the upcoming redesign.

I’m with you, Vic. The car concept is ultra-cool. The movie concept is not. Hopefully this sets Ford back on the straight and narrow path. Their business decisions during the past decade haven’t been entirely good ones.
