It’s funny how one little news item will sometimes lead to even bigger ones.
Case in point: The Hollywood Reporter informs us that Bryce Dallas Howard (who was utterly wasted as Gwen Stacey in Spider-Man 3) is being sought after to replace Charlotte Gainsbourg in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins for the role of Kate Connor - the wife of John Connor (i.e. Batman himself Christian Bale).
Filming has already started in New Mexico and Gainsbourg apparently had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts with a French comedy she’d previously committed to. Fair enough and that’s certainly not uncommon in the film industry.

Later that afternoon, Aint-It-Cool-News‘ Moriarty posts one Helluva major spoiler via a contact of his:
“Alright so the main character is a cyborg named Marcus. For some background, Marcus was a criminal who was executed in 2003. He donated his body to Project Angel which was involved with SkyNet. They take his body and make a terminator out of him so he’s a terminator skeleton but has living muscle/skin and a beating heart too. At the end of the movie John Connor is fighting a T800 model 101 and loses. He dies and the top resistance people come up with a plan to help the resistance keep fighting on. The resistance feels that it’s important to keep the image or idea that John Connor is still alive so the resistance keeps going. So they rip off Marcus’ skin and put John Connor’s on the skeleton so now Marcus is John Connor.”
Not too long later, CHUD’s Devin Faraci helped clarify the matter saying:
I can’t confirm that last part completely, but it gibes with everything I have heard from multiple sources. I wasn’t sure if that aspect was changing after the writer’s strike - Connor’s role has been beefed up considerably since I first got my information - but assuming that Moriarty’s source is talking about the latest drafts (and be aware that he could be talking about the same drafts I was talking about six or seven months ago, which may be very outdated at this point), this spoiler is right on the money.
And just a few minutes ago, guess who decides to add their $.02 into the matter? Why, the director of Terminator: Salvation: Mr. McG.
Posting on the film’s official blog, the director says only this about the recent rumors:
“By the way, there are only three people who know the ending.”
Even if it is true, do you think McG would just admit it? Of course not! He’s going to lie like crazy - understandably, I might add!
Moriarty and Devin are two guys who definitely know their stuff. So I’m going to take their word on this. For more details and their opinions on all this, check out their stories below.

When I read that on aintitcool, I actually shuddered. Yes, it is just a rumour so I’m hoping it is wrong, but considering the lack of faith I have in the people behind this, well, I am struggling to convince myself.
The leader of the human resistance is a Terminator? Sounds like a twist from m. night shyamalan!
On a better note, I got my dvd of T2 (finally, bloody postmen) and loved it. Just watched it twice, second with commentary. Odd thing is some of the new bits I have seen, but the Reese and the brain surgery on Arnie were new. I do love the malfunctioning T-1000 at the end though.
There is something I have to add however. I had read that bit before I watched this today, and when I saw John Connor at the start, seriously, he does act like a Terminator! He stands still and moves his head and eyes about in a very Arnie like way. Scary!
But glad I got this, now for the other extras. Oh, and thanks to 790, the helpful and persuasive grumpy robot head.
Glad you liked it Steven the Git……….!
They are going to ruin the franchise the same way they ruined Alien, Predator and Star Trek: Bend the story till it makes no sense at all to get more sequels into it.
Sorry, but I’m not going to buy this!
I wonder what Cameron would have done, if they’d offered him the chance to do T2/T3 back to back with enough money to finish all the (planned) future sequences?
I guess that the story arc would have been completed in a proper way.
Including a decent cameo by Michael Biehn (back then he was not too old!) and a Sarah Conner that would have died in a sensible way (fighting against the machines) and not just dying of cancer, because the actress has lost her faith in the franchise and you need to write her out of it some way or another!
We would have seen the fight against SkyNet to its (proper and final) conclusion and the use of the time machine etc. End of story, no more questions left!
Now it’s going to take at least another 2-3 sequels to get near that because they basically want to re-use the action of part 2 over and over again to milk the fan cow. Sad!
ZAR.
I’m sorry, but I really think that anyone who believes that the filmmakers would pull a “John Connor is really a Terminator” twist is gullible. No one could really be stupid enough to try it. It would pretty much destroy everything that James Cameron built. Seriously, how could a Terminator replacement programed to act like John Connor have the intimate memories of certain things. For instance, he never told anyone that his father was Kyle Reese as far as I remember. It’s so ridiculous it makes me think of the news that Michael Bay is intentionally leaking bum plot spoilers to pull a sort of sleight-of-hand trick with the plot of the upcoming Transformers 2.
If this rumor is true, then McG needs to have a confrontation with Kahless’ bat’leth. In the 3rd movie, the Terminator admitted he killed John Connor; if the rumor is true, how come John Connor in the 3rd movie did not recognize himself? This would be totally idiotic.
This Marcus plot is either bunk or crap - neither in a good way.
Besides, what happened to the rubbers-skinned Terminators Reese tells Sarah about in T1? How does the resistance program the John Connor Terminator? Wouldn’t John Connorn’s death fuel the resistance’s desire to take out Skynet? i.e. when is a martyr more powerful than a leader on the battlefield? I can’t imagine John would be all that great of a leader as a half-a$$ed programed Terminator made to look like him. Is John really that inspirational that if he died in the future the resistance would just say “oh well, we tried” and quit? John started the resistence and that is his importance, not that he “lived” to see the end of Skynet. Did this make any sense to anyone? Sorry
This is the worst script idea I have heard of in all my life.!
Total ban if this is the way their going….!
can’t wait till t4 comes out.
i wanta see another t-1000 in t5.
Robocop anyone? this is crap! charlie’s angels anyone? i’m gonna watch Empire of the Sun again to rekindle my faith
they better not make conner into a terminator cause basically that is slapping james cameron and the terminator films he did right in the face. i mean its the worst idea for a script to do that. all of the actual terminator fans will hate this cause its basically saying we saved conner in these other films for no reason.
good point panda. and yes the rubber terminators are in this film.
