Looks like a deal between the striking writers and the studios and production companies could be imminent. If so, a lot of people will be going back to work, possibly giving us a few new episodes of our favorite shows before the end of the 2007/08 season. Many of these shows that have been off the air due to work stoppage.
Following the Directors Guild of America (DGA) deal made with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) last month, along with a number of side deals the Writers Guild of America (WGA) have made with production companies and mini-studios like David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants and Marvel Studios, we may be close to seeing an official deal between the WGA and AMPTP.

The WGA have been striking since November, and we’re already seeing the effects on TV and film, with many shows going off the air and movies shutting down or being delayed due to script problems. But the WGA and AMPTP have been meeting and talks are going good so far, according to numerous sources. Many of the biggest issues, like Internet distribution revenue, seem to be getting resolved in a positive manner.
Some are predicting a deal in the coming days, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There have been a couple of negotiations that went sour, so let’s stay cautiously optimistic and see what happens. I for one just want to see it end, so people can get back to work and we can watch some great TV.
Plus, we don’t want to see the Oscars essentially cancelled like the Golden Globes last month. I think the public backlash against both the WGA and AMPTP will be huge.

I don’t think (ok, I *know*) that the Oscars were in no danger of being cancelled (not that I care about the Oscars, anyway).
And it’s funny… I haven’t really noticed the lack of new shows much on TV. My worry is how it will affect 2009 movies. I hope this ends fast soon enough to allow script changes to the in production Star Trek movie.

Actually, I was cheering for the cancellation of the Oscars. The idea that they may not in danger kind of disappoints me. Then again, those awards shows have always annoyed me.
Like Vic, I haven’t really noticed the lack of TV shows, so the strike hasn’t take much of a toll on me. I’ve just substituted DVDs and books for TV shows, and it was completely seamless since I enjoy those anyway.
Anyway, I for one, will miss the strike when it ends. Unlike most people, I actually found it entertaining.
Yea Vic, the Oscars will go on even if the Strike continues.
Typically only a war or huge disaster can stop that juggernaut of a show.

I’m hopefull that this will end real-quick but I’m not going to get my hopes up until it really happens.
These side deals mark slow progress but the Writers are still out in force picketing.

Flamestrike, if I didn’t work in Hollywood I would be cheering for this strike to continue as well. Unfortunitly I do, and its really a bad thing for this town and its actually costing people their homes and future…

No, nothing like Transformers. That wasn’t entertaining, that was painful. And if you can’t see the entertainment value in the strike, I couldn’t possibly explain it to you.
Let’s just say, I tend to have some extremely warped views on what I call entertainment and leave it at that.
