Nice work Vic!

Interesting comments on the JLA controversy and the Avengers film.

(I believe Jon’s nailed that point.)
In terms of the JLA film “Its too big of a step in terms of scope for the franchises involved (Batman, Superman)”

Sounds like Marvel is going to release superhero *Origin* films first then later down the road put together a Avengers film. I like that idea better than recasting with different younger actors JLA style.
If JLA comes out with there young newbee cast its going to look pretty bad compaired to a film with Ed Norton , Downey Jr etc playing the roles that the fans know them for.

Sorry KEL….(IMO),
JLA needs more time to figure itself out…

Vic, were you wearing a kilt during that interview? I think Favreau blew sunshine up it at one point.

Face it, there will be no Avengers or Justice League movie with the original actors.

The CAST won’t sustain it (ensemble roles for former headline roles) and the COST won’t support it. After just getting all the actors to show, you’d have no budget left for effects.

Then there’s logistics, such as each origin story taking YEARS to execute. By the time Thor and Captain America’s stories are told, Downey/Stark will be in Mark XXIV Armor with a built-in walker.

The solo movies are fine. Incidental meet-ups or close-calls would be cool.Cameos could work, too. Any old fool can dress in a hero costume.

Uh, Jim… you may have heard of this little series of movies with titles like Ocean’s 11. Ocean’s 12 & Ocean’s 13?

What were those if not top heavy with headline actors?

And did he not say it would be a very difficult thing to do and he’s not sure how Marvel plans on pulling it off?

Yea I don’t see the cost of the cast being an issue with Marvel films. They seem to be a few steps ahead of DC on that one…
DC really needs to stop and think of the longterm effects of a JLA film…

Thanks Vic for a great interview. I know you must have been very excited to get the only interview with Jon after the WonderCon presentation.. and it is a great one. You know just the right questions to ask. Hey, Jon did say he had promised to text Robert right after to let him know how it went … do you suppose that’s who he was texting when you started the interview? Those two are just like a couple of kids … the enthusiasm is fantastic!!

Those clips of Downey “learning to fly” were priceless. Love how excited Jon gets when answering the questions … specially the one about the jet boots… I think he loved that moment of teasing the audience.

Thanks again Vic… so glad you could be at WonderCon … sorry I missed you.
Now I am off to AI to get the rest of the story! ;-)

Thanks for the interview, Vic. I feel very comfortable with Jon as the director and I think that this movie is going to be a huge hit.

I think a Justice League movie COULD work if they do it after Season 8 of Smallville and use the Smallville heroes of JL that have been introduced already: Superman, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Cyborg, etc. Heck, season 8 could work in a cameo by Bruce Wayne, thus setting the groundwork for a JL movie with a somewhat affordable, but believeable cast.

They could do a JLA film that way Andy but I still say if JLA comes out first Marvel will counter it by releasing an Avengers film with Downey and Norton. That’s all you would need the rest could be cast and then break off into their solo films.
(Assuming of course the almost gauranteed success of Iron Man and hopefully the Hulk as well).

I could allmost her it in the interview with Jon F. Its like he wanted to say more about that but couldn’t at this time.

What I think is cool is this film is going to be about his transformation into Iron Man thru his Armor suit creations and the sh*t that goes down with his mentor.
This and his relationships are going to make this the BEST superhero origin film ever.
I’m so totally allready in love with this film , allready….

BTW guys, I’ve gotten confirmation that the movie will NOT open on April 30th in the U.S.

The May 2nd release date is still correct.

Great post, Vic! I’m glad that you got the chance to interview Favs, brother man!

The rest of you…… how DARE you bring up the subject of JLA without me??????

You guys know that I ALWAYS have two cents (sense… hee hee) to put in about that!

I don’t have that much of a problem with the recasting of Superman and Batman, even tho I loved Bale and Routh in the roles. Batman’s been recast sooo many times that audiences should be used to that by now, and so has Superman. The trouble is we don’t know if who they’ve cast are good choices or not. All we have right now are RUMORS, nothing official on their casting. And from where I sit, the rumored actors are bad choices. DJ Cotrona would make a horrible Superman (he’s like 5′ 9′, guys!) and Armie Hammer would be a horrible Batman (he’s 6′ 5′! Not to mention he’ll be aproaching SEVEN feet tall with that cowl, dwarfing Cotrona’s Superman! That ain’t right!), IMO. I frankly think that the Hollywood Reporter got the two mixed up. I think Armie Hammer was cast as Superman and DJ Cotrona was cast as Batman, not vice versa. It makes much more sense to me that way and I’d be much more tolerant of their casting if that were the case. Time will tell.

THAT said, I think the rest of the cast is fine. Some choices I quite like:

Megan Gale as WW: Good choice, IMO

Common as GL/John Stewart: Great choice, IMO

Adam Brody as Flash/ Barry Allen: OK choice, IMO, I’m warming up to him (he reminds me of Maguire a little)

Anton Yelchin as Kid Flash/ Wally West: EXCELLENT choice, IMO

The rest I’ll wait and see before I pass any further judgment. :-)
I think a JLA movie is a great idea, I understand the reasons why they’d recast Superman and Batman, and hope that WB/DC knock one out of the park with this one. They have too much to lose if they don’t, IMO.

And 790, although you disagree, I think it’s great that they’re casting unknowns as the JLA members. More believable that way. Like Chris Reeve as Superman, if they’d have cast Robert Redford as Supes instead of him we’d have been seeing Rob Redford dressed up like Superman on the big screen instead of Superman. Trouble is, are these unknowns any good? ;-)
But I think some of these bigger names like Downey are taylor made for their parts. :-)
