I thought Heroes was pretty bad. But I really liked Chuck and Journey Man.

Wow. You liked the Heroes premiere far better than I did.

I was a huge fan of the first season, and wrote about on my blog often.

I’ve also reviewed this episode on my blog and we’ve come away with VERY different opinions on the episode.

Perhaps it’s because I just watched the first season on DVD, but this first episode of Season 2 was horrible.

Lykson,

I read your review and commented on it. Very well written even though I disagree with your opinion. You really spelled out your dislikes in detail.

I think they tried to set up a lot of plot threads in this one, so it felt like maybe a bit much squeezed in without enough depth. And I didn’t mind the funny bits with Claire’s family at all.

It’s funny, sometimes with a TV episode or a movie review I feel like I need to watch it twice to really digest it, but that just takes too bloody long!

Mike, what specifically didn’t you like?

Vic,

Thanks for the comment on my site. It’s good to have someone read it other than family and friends for a change. :)
I think you’re right that there were just a lot of plot threads started such that none got deep enough to really enthrall me.

Perhaps the episode lacked good editing more than good writing. I think some of the plotlines could have been tightened up significantly and still gotten the point across.

I’m hopeful that the season will improve. If they take daring chances (for example, what if Claire’s new boy isn’t as nice as he seems), then it could go places.

I’m excited about the reintroduction of Sylar and Peter.

Vic,

I just thought the writing seemed bad, there were a couple of moments I thought were good, but on a whole I just didn’t like it.

“Did you notice the mark on Kensei’s sword??”

Yup, it’s Kensei’s symbol. On his banner as well.

So Kensei’s symbol is the same as the “Bogeyman’s” symbol and the symbol of death??? My wife thinks Kensei is the Bogeyman. I think she could be right.

I do not have much time for T.V. so I catch the shows I do watch on DVD (Smallville, House, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes, Soprano’s, Stargate). So with this whole mark thing with Kensei. Like I said before my wife thinks Kensei is the “Bogeyman”. I have another opinion…….I think the “Bogeyman” is a mad fururistic version of Hiro’s friend from season one.

or even an angry, evil futuristic Hiro……with his childhood idol all non-hero and everything………it could happen…….

Smitty, the Kensei theory is an interesting one… maybe he turns out to be immortal, although I can’t picture the writers taking as popular a character as Hiro and turning him into a murderer.

Not really relevant to the current discussion, but just to update on the whole years behind in shows that Australia normally is on the receiving end of, seems the times, they are a changing….for the better! Prison Break is only 1 week behind the United States, and so I’m told Heroes will only be delayed by about a month. The only word I have to describe this? Hallelujah!
