Okay, here’s my issue with the trailer. Looks good all the way up to the point where Cruise starts talking. As Americans, we at least expect the German to have a British accent if not a true German accent. As soon as Cruise opens his mouth, the trailer is ruined and I am taken out of the moment. I’m sorry but if nothing else the the Germans can’t sound American, it ruins it for me. There are some quality actors in this film and I hope it does well. I just think that casting Cruise as a German was a bad move. Maybe another poor decision from wunderkind director Singer? More and more I am liking his films less and less. I was one of the few who did not really care for X2 and really thought X-men was little more than okay. His only really excellent movie so far has been The Usual Suspects and that might have had more to do with the script and the actors than Singer.

Shane, dude… that’s actually a good point. I’ve been conditioned by those old war movies and ALWAYS expect some sort of accent. For some reason I hadn’t even thought of that.

Yes Shane is
correct good point!
Also wonder how the new Kirk will sound, its gonna matter guys at paramount.

Have to disagree with you on X2 however. But I also think B.Singer should maybe stick to action/sci-fi films.
I’ve had my fill of ww2 films thanks.

Oh and Vic your wrong again,, Evil cult, not cult.
^
Bottom line I’m not paying my less-than-euro dollar on this film.

Wasn’t Brian Singer injured on the Enterprise during the Shinzon attack?

Hirojen, any
feedback on this obscure reference?

Well as a brit it quite nce to hear some other type of accent portraying the germans, but i have to agree, Tom don’t cut it. Looking at the trailer most of the other actors could’t phone in a bad perfromace in a period drama. like the look of the film, looking forward to seeing it but jury still out on Tom in this kind of flick.

has Tom ever done a period peice before? … oh god yes just rememberd Far and Away

I know that you all are fighting about the german accent but if you use your brain for a second you will realize that they are Germans, in Germany, they don’t even need to speak english but sence this movie was made by americans it was transleted in Endlish.

my bad it’s supose to be english.

Adrian said,

Edri, your absolute right, but the thing is when you hear a foreigner speak English, there a little accent. Just sounds better,IMO.

Endri said,

Yes I know but it’s better not to have a foreign accent, then to have a bad one, wich tom cruise could not have done.

You’re totally right about the Cruise cult,Vic. Congrats for having the grapes ta say that.

Superman Returns was well made, just not a good movie,IMO.;-)

Looks pretty good. Cruise doing an American accent in this doesn’t work though. That aside, with Bryan Singer directing and a great supporting cast, I’ll check it out.

Well, I’m going to have to reserve judgement on this movie. I remember liking Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves even though Kevin Costner didn’t have a British accent. Cruise has surprised me before (Last Samurai, Collateral) and hopefully he will surprise all of us in this film.

And Scientology, big time leader on the Access of Evil Cults list. :o)
