Too bad, really, with the recent changes to the writing team and the bringing in of Manny Coto to oversee the stories and production. Unfortunately what we’re seeing now on the show should have taken place in season one. I feel like the show has been rebooted this season, and the first season of post TOS Trek is always a little slow to get off the ground.
It’s a shame the current team won’t get a chance to get up to speed and make Star Trek: Enterprise a true prequel to TOS, instead of the disconnected, Voyager-like story to a far off part of space with the Xindi arc.
Can’t really say I blame UPN… although I’ll bet Sci Fi network could make it work. ![]()

The show definitely had potential, but I’m not surprised that it’s being cancelled. It seems like the right production team came along a day late and a dollar short. It’s pretty sad when a show’s ratings are so low that even UPN has to cancel it. I remember five or six years ago, when UPN’s highest-rated show was Voyager. At the time, that show was number 92 in the ratings.

Dang. TV is a brutal place. I’ll be the writers are really bummed that they didn’t get a decent run to see what they could do. I get so tired of the attitude that shows have to be WILDLY successful to stay on the air. What ever happened to “meat and potatoes” TV? ;-(
Tilly,
Hey, good to hear from you again.
I understand what you’re saying, but a Sci Fi show like Enterprise costs a lot of money to produce on a weekly basis. There’s no denying the ratings have been very weak for quite a while.
I think Star Trek could stand to take a breather for a few years. Maybe it’ll come back stronger at some point down the line.

I agree. Season 4 should have been Season 1.
From what I understand from the folks at The Enterprise Project and others, the production costs need to be a lot lower for the Sci-Fi channel or Spike to pick the show up. There is a faint hope for another network or syndication. Rumors are flying around that this is the reason for the announcement now, so UPN can make deals.
Downhere in Brazil we haven?t seen the 4th season yet, but from my impressions about the 3rd i could say that ENT was getting much better.
The show had bad moments, specially the 1st year w/ that idiotic theme song and the brand StarTrek missing from the title.
Comercial TV works like that everywhere, but even so i feel i?ll miss the show.
One thing that really killed Enterprise was the horrible theme song. All the other Star Trek series had a snappy theme while I always had to hit the mute button when the Enterprise elevator music came on. Great show, though.
Dude, tell me about that theme song. Unfortunately my wife likes it, so I have to listen to it every… single… time.
