Duke In G.I. Joe Cast
Written on January 28, 2008 by Heath McKnight
Duke in the G.I. Joe movie has been cast, and they went with Channing Tatum, who is 27 years old. Personally, I think they should've gone with someone older, like Bruce Willis, as I mentioned in my previous post (near the bottom). Heck, I'd have been okay with Matthew Fox (Lost)!
The movie starts production shortly with Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) directing. This is his first film since the abysmal Van Helsing which came out in 2004.
So, what do you all think?

Is anyone interested in seeing this? This ranks down there with the JLA as an ill-advised project.
I liked the GI Joe cartoon and would like a live-action version (if it's done right). Bruce Willis as Duke? Don't know about that; Bruce is a great actor but I think he may be a bit too old to play Duke.
A GI-Joe movie...
Why?
^
Is this going to be a rated G war epic.
Wow that sounds lame.
^
Yes, a G rating would be lame. PG-13 or R would be better.
Hugh Jackman would have been good. It's a shame that casting agents are going so young these days!
Niall
This is the worst news I've heard all day. This movie is gonna suck beyond bad. They picked Tatum to promote the movie to the younger crowd *cough* teenage girls?? ZzZz. I see they have the market covered now with two "hip" actors in Tatum and Marlon Wayans. What a slap in the face to the G.I. Joe franchise and to the fans who grew up with it.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did call Jackman and Willis and both said "no thanks".
After Van Helsing would you work with Stephen Sommers again???
Niall
I'm sure Jackman wants to distance himself from that guy.
^
Stephen Sommers, so that's the hacks name, hmmmm
The first two films Mummy and VH were both Universal films. I wonder if this one is? (Probly).
^
If so this could be Sommers last chance Directing at Universal.
There prob giving him one more chance or this is his last film under contract.
^
The Mummy was real good but Van Helsing was a..
f#%*$£g piece of s#*t. I mean come on let's get real.
^
What's the story on this? The cartoon was violent yet non-graphic. Cobra was the enemy? Wtf a film on this??
^
Might as well make a Van Helsing 2.
Steve- don't say things you can't take back.
Never wish for Van Helsing 2
:-)
Niall
Sorry Niall, that won't happen again!
^
Lol :)
For me, this movie could go either way. A good part of the casting is good and so is the writer. The interview with the producer made the film sound serious in tone and very promising. The director has great imaging and has done good , also believed he's learned from 0the Van Helsing "experience". So Sommers just needs to keep the film PG13. Hoping to be shocked.
I think that Michal Clark Duncan should play Bear. I olso would like to mention that if VH was more vailent and gory it would have been really good for my taste.
VIC!!!
You and me share the same brain!!!
Well when it comes to this.. . ;p
I think Bruce Willis would have been great, but Matthew Fox would also have been awesome!!! Great ideas man! Too bad you can't influence them...
Wanna start a petition?
;)
Are you serious!!! Just because Channing Tantum gets to sleep with Jenna Dewan does not make him the all American Hero. Channing is Lady Jane will a sex change and a die job. This light in the loafers version of Duke is going to have me shouting COBRA!!! It least when Duke got annoying in the cartoon series they found ways to put him into a comma. Instead I think I'll be in a comma when this Duke decides to step up on Cobra commander.
No seriously look Channing Tatum really is Lady Jaye. On the off chance Screen Rants actually will interview or have contact with Tatum would you please pass on my open letter to him found at http://greyfoxden.blogspot.com/ (Plug, Sorry Vic)
Stephen,
Actually it was me (Heath) who wanted Bruce Willis in the role of Duke, but I'm sure Vic would agree. At least I think he would, lol.
heath
Guys, I know NOTHING about G.I. Joes beyond the action figures I played with when I was a kid, so I have no opinion on who is cast as who.
