I haven’t followed the movie version of Doom very closely and the only version of the video game I played was the free one back in the stone age days of the internet (Anyone remember the Mosaic browser? I didn’t think so).
Anyway, thanks to “Filmforce”, you can see the first teaser trailer for Doom, starring none other than “The Rock”.
The trailer starts out with an Aliens vibe (which is a good thing) but I was distracted by the cheesy voice-over. By the end of the trailer though, it seems to degenerate into a Resident Evil kind of mode.
I’m sure it’ll just be a fun, check-your-brain-at-the-door kind of sci-fi/action flick. In any case I enjoy watching “The Rock” play action hero. ![]()

I’ll see your Mosaic browser, and raise you one Lynx browser (all text baby, yeah!).
Since when has a trailer narration been anything but cheesy? The word that came to mind when I heard the narration was “ineffective.”
I’m sure you’re right; it will probably be a popcorn movie. These guys must think they’ll be the lone exceptions to the “all movies based on video games suck” rule. For my money, I would have preferred a movie adaptation of Duke Nukem. Come get some…!

I was hoping for a glimpse of the Cyberdemon with its rocket launcher for a right arm. In the second Doom (or the first, I forget) there was nothing more intimidating than hearing it’s giant hoof steps in the room you were about to enter. As you approached the door, a rocket would crash into the other side of it right before you would try to enter. Creepy. Something like that should rival the Balrog from LOTR.
Ah, the Balrog. Talk about a badly conceived movie monster. It looked and sounded like a big dumb creature akin to a T-Rex. Not a terrible and powerful sorcerer that could counter a spell of Gandalf’s and send him hurtling backwards down a flight of stairs. I don’t recall there being any mention of the Balrog roaring in the books. Regardless, besides the fact that it was bigger than Gandalf, I didn’t see any reason to be scared of it. Now the Cyberdemon versus Gandalf. That would be a fight I’d pay to see.
