1408 did/is doing big business, so there’s hope yet. I never bothered with Saw or any of those films. Yawn. One interesting thing was Nikki Finke of Deadlinehollywoddaily.com, takes the PR firm behind Captivity to task for promoting a “torture porn” movie.

Never saw that before! My love of horror films was along the lines of THE THING (1982), An American Werewolf in London, the original Frankensteins with Karloff, etc. Not this stuff! Then again, torture porn actually makes me yearn for the days of the self-aware/self-parody horror films Kevin Williamson wrote in the mid- to late-1990s, which also sparked the return of the R-rated sex comedies that were missing for about 15 or so years.

Yeah, that’s the controversy I was referring to, and the fact that “1408″ did/is doing so well speaks to the point I was making.

“American Werewolf” and “The Thing” are among my favorite scary movies. And don’t forget the orginal “Alien.”

How about ALIENS, one of the scariest, most thrilling sci fi/action films of all time??

Aliens is my all-time favorite movie, but I’d classify that more as Sci-Fi/Action-Adventure than horror.
