Funny that two highly anticipated claymation (do they still call it that?) movies are being released at about the same time… Of course they are as different from each other as night and day.
On the one hand we have Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride, a wierd, creepy-looking thing for which I have yet to figure out who the target audience is. All I know is that when a commercial for it comes on, my 9 year old daughter and I look at each other and say “I don’t think so.”
Compare this to Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit: I get a grin on my face just thinking about this movie. Aardman animation is to clay (ok fine, plasticine) what Pixar is to CGI: A company that makes movies that are as funny to a 3 year old as they are to a 60 year old, and without any stupid double entendre, wink-wink-nudge-nudge moments in movies that are marketed to kids.

Obviously, The Corbse Bride is targeted to the cool kids. I know I plan to see it.
How could I have been so dense?

I’m with Nicholas on that one. Both Corpse Bride and Curse of the Were-Rabbit look wicked cool.

I guess you’d better review it.

I saw the flick last weekend.. Nice art direction but very derivative. The story wasOK , but notgreat. Good animation. Id say its rental. I dont like Tim Burtons work, but this film didnt bug me. id wait for Wallace and Gromit…
But Wallace and Gromit ROCK!!
Vic
The film business is big enough to accomodate both films and their varied styles. Each of them are a triumph in their own right given what they achieve in a CG saturated market.I will say on a personal note that while Wallace and Gromit strive for a lighthearted feel, they achieve just that. Corpse Bride on the other hand is the pinnacle of what can be achieved by true masters of their craft, it simply doesn’t get any better than Corpse Bride.
i am plannin 2 c the corpse bride, if any single boyz wanna c it wiv me, if u do email me
I’ve seen both movies at least twice, and I love each dearly.
I’m a huge fan of Tim Burton and Danny Elfman, and upon hearing they were working on another stop action film I was honestly giggling like a maniac because I was so happy. I’ve just grown up with Tim’s movies, and I love them to death (no pun intended).
I also grew up loving the Wallace and Gromit short films, especially A Close Shave (gotta love Shawn!). They’re so cleverly done, and the characters have so much personality. and Gromit is my hero.
True, the animation wasn’t as superb as Corpse Bride, but it did have a much different feel about it. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been wondering when they’l finally make a Wallace and Gromit full-length movie.
You can’t really compare either movies. Both had amazing music, rather surprisingly, actually, and they were just very well-done overall.
I highly doubt one will be nominated for best animated film and not the other. It all comes down to which one wins, and then there will be chaos
Well THAT sounded intelligent XP
