Chris Rock Not Hosting 2006 Oscars

I can't say that I'm sorry to hear that Chris Rock won't be hosting the Oscars™ in 2006 (not that I'm that big a fan of the Oscars™ anymore, anyway). Don't get me wrong, I really like Chris Rock and his pull-no-punches style... I just don't think it's a good fit with the awards show.

Bring back Billy Crystal or Steve Martin and I might tune in.

I think Chris Rock would have been somewhat fun. I can only think of a handfull of people I would like to see host the Oscars:

Larry David
Jerry Seinfeld
Ricky Gervais
Conan OBrien

and most of all a repeat performance by
David Letterman

Of course, I think the Oscars are the television equivalent of spam.

Letterman was a disaster; he's not hosting the Oscars again in this lifetime. Larry David could potentially be a good fit, but probably not Seinfeld, IMHO.

The thing I like about Billy Crystal and Steve Martin is that they both know how to poke fun at the whole thing WITHOUT coming across as mean spirited. That's the difference between them and Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg and David Letterman.

i think that chris rock would be great for hosting the oscars because of his style but i guess we will know what we are missing this year since he is not hosting

Well we've already seen Rock host the Oscars, and although I really enjoy him as a comedian I didn't think his style really fit the event. If Stewart can use his style of humor and direct it at the topic (instead of bringing up politics) I think he might do really well.
