The last we’d heard, Kevin McKidd was on the short list of possible actor to portray Thor in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming live action superhero movie by the same name.
Late yesterday word came out the McKidd wasn’t even aware of this until he asked his agent about it after hearing the rumors (ain’t the internet great?). However the news isn’t quite what we expected to hear…
McKidd stated:

“I didn’t know about it either until I heard the rumors and I called my agent, and he went, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, we’ve been talking to them about it.’ But the last I heard from my agent, they’re talking that they want to go for somebody much younger, a 19- or 20-year-old, for that role. So they’re reconceptualizing it as we speak.”
So instead of a rugged Kevin McKidd or a larger than life Tyler Mane, are we getting a late-teens version of Thor, perhaps with McKidd playing his father, Odin?
We can only vehemently hope NOT.
I really think any assumption at this point would be jumping the gun. The script is no doubt still in flux at such an early stage and much can change between now and the start of shooting later this year or in early 2008.

Sounds horrible! Odin, help us…
why in the hell does every franchise have to be made younger? First, Superman looks like he just got out of junior high. Now Thor as a 19 year old? Why does hollywood screw up everything with their unnecessary adaptations? I’ve been wanting a Thor movie for nearly my entire life and this is how my patience is going to be repaid?

Just remember this isn’t cast in stone and it could change. Who knows? Maybe it’s a red herring to throw movie sites off track.

Dear God! What is this?! Young Avengers? Why in the world would Marvel do this? And it IS Marvel,so if this sux it’s their fault! And it does suck! Smallville meets Thor. That’s really great……you guys know what I mean.
This would suck. Big time.
Marvel has basically played it straight when it comes to the character’s ages in their films so far, so why they’d start with an ‘ageless’ character such as Thor is beyond me. Hopefully he heart this wrong…
