Good call Vic, but who would really have guessed that Abrams was going to take this one, and have all this creative control?

Imagine…a new series as well? To early to call.

Still, I do feel they’re just having another crack at the Enterprise series.

Nah, gotta disagree. The “Starfleet Academy Days” movie idea has been around for about 10 years. There was actually a script written for it long ago by a longtime Trek-involved writer whose name escapes me.

Yeah, 10 years is fine, but the prequel series has just been on TV, and they messed it up. I’m going to carry a bitterness from that into the film.

Still, Abrams on Trek, and with huge amount of control…you gotta be hopeful for at least one film.

I try to forget the first 3 seasons of “Enterprise” and only consider the 4th season “real” Trek. 8)

Vic,

It almost sounds like Paramount read your April Fool’s post and got a sudden burst of inspiration.
With Abrams on board, this franchise might end up with some long-needed mainstream appeal. The “younger days” idea can be implemented well by the right people (i.e. Godfather II), but in the hands of the wrong people, we’ll have a cinematic train wreck (i.e. Dumb and Dumberer).

It’s safe to say that Paramount is out of ideas for this franchise.

This is cool, you have to try it. I guessed 66561, and this game guessed it! See it here - http://www.funbrain.com/guess/

I have been a Star Trek fan since I was 8 years old when the original pilot came out. The major flaw of this premise is that Spock was already serving on the Enterprise under Captain Pike before Kirk got there, so they could NOT have attended Star Fleet Academy together. Also, McCoy was much older than Kirk, so he couldn’t have been there either. I have a feeling this will suck.

This new direction and new director suck. All jj abhrams past credits are all shows that suck. Lost and alias, please , bottom fodder tv. Having the script writers that also co-wrote “transformers” dosnt sound good ether. That film was written for 12 year olds and it was all effects. Having a starfleet academy film is a horrible idea, when there was so much left to do after the events of Nemesis, Ds9 and Voyager. I’m clearly not interested in this pre-original series film. And I will not pay to see it.

Steve,

I also disliked “Transformers.” I thought it was pretty pedestrian and nothing more than eye candy. And even though I think that “Lost” drags on far too slowly I do think it’s well written. And the guys who wrote the excellent “Children of Men” are also involved in this, so I guess you could say it’s got about a 50/50 shot.

I will say that Nimoy’s involvement is a good sign. I believe he is VERY picky and wouldn’t sign on if he didn’t think this thing had potential.
