Aquaman star, Jason Momoa, and wife Lisa Bonet have announced their split after five years of marriage with an emotional Instagram post. Momoa is an American actor, best known for his roles in Aquaman, Dune, and Game of Thrones. He began his career as a teenager in modeling, before landing his first acting role as Jason Ioane in Baywatch Hawaii. Momoa went on to land the lead role in the 2011 film, Conan the Barbarian, before moving onto Game of Thrones in 2011. In 2017, he made his first appearance as Aquaman in Batman v. Superman, before starring in his solo film, Aquaman, in 2018. Momoa will be reprising his role as Aquaman for Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, set to premiere on December 16, 2022.

Bonet is also an American actress best known for her roles in The Cosby Show, A Different World, and Road to Paloma. Bonet and Momoa were married in 2017 and share two children together - Nakoa-Wolf and Lola Iolani. While married in 2017, Momoa and Bonet's relationship began in 2005, and the two even worked together on Road to Paloma. While Momoa's acting career has taken off in recent years, Bonet's acting career is more sporadic, with her last gig dating back to 2016. In the midst of Momoa's growing career and promotion for Aquaman 2, the couple has taken a pause to deliver a personal announcement.

Momoa took to Instagram to share a joint statement with Bonet, announcing their split after five years of marriage. The emotional post expresses how times are changing in the world, as well as within their family as they experience shifts and transformations. Their decision to share their split comes from their desire to remain dignified and honest in their public lives. Momoa and Bonet also reiterated their continued love for each other and their unwavering devotion to their children. They indicated their split was a way to set each other free, and they ended their statement with "May Love Prevail." Check out the post below:

The post was accompanied by various photos of nature and cropped photos of someone holding a baby bird in their palm. The scenic photos aligned well with the almost poetic nature of the post as it delicately and emotionally revealed the split. While Momoa and Bonet don't think the announcement "newsworthy," they do show an understanding of being public figures and the necessity to address such changes with honesty and dignity. While fans may be saddened by the news, the couple's firm devotion to their children and each other is comforting. Momoa's relationship with his children will not likely suffer as the post brims with the parents' love and commitment to their children. The announcement is carefully crafted to express hope and love, even in the midst of the end of a marriage.

Celebrity break-ups are quite common, but tend to make big waves among followers who romanticize celebrity relationships or thirst for drama and gossip. However, Momoa and Bonet's approach seems to fend off the possibility of any drama or gossip as the two made the announcement together and with pure respect for one another. Meanwhile, their decision to make this announcement when they weren't required to, will hopefully satisfy fans and keep any rumors from arising. As they indicated, their split is likely merely the result of change, as Momoa's acting career continues to grow and the two embark on different paths. Following their announcement, Aquaman's Momoa and his partner Bonet will hopefully be granted the privacy to navigate this change in their lives together as they continue to respect one another and devote themselves to their children.
