Despite a recent release date push-back, 2018 will still be bringing us DC's first Aquaman feature film. Thanks to an early poster, a cameo in March's Batman v Superman, and the all-star trailer for Justice League, we've had a number of chances to see what Jason Momoa will look like as Arthur Curry, future King of Atlantis. Though each entry into the slowly growing DCEU has been met with mixed reception from fans and critics, long-time DC Comics readers are nonetheless excited for the ruler of the seven seas to finally get the vehicle he deserves. With The Conjuring and Furious 7 director James Wan at the helm, the film looks to be an exciting ride, full of swashbuckling action.

Thanks to her appearance in next summer's team-up, we already know what Amber Heard will look like as Atlantis' Queen, Mera. Still, it's likely that we won't get to truly explore her relationship with Aquaman until the two take the spotlight in 2018. With the film starting pre-production last month, a flurry of new casting announcements have followed Momoa's and Heard's. We learned that Willem Dafoe will be trading Marvel villains for DC ones to play Vulko. And just two days ago we found out that Patrick Wilson would serve as Ocean Master, the long-rumored chief antagonist of the film.

We'll likely have to wait a bit longer to find out how Vulko and Ocean Master will appear in the film, but thanks to fan art auteur Boss Logic, we at least have one idea of how Wilson could look as the latter villain.

Known better by his fellow Atlanteans as Orm, Ocean Master is the half-brother of Aquaman and often comes to blows with the hero in an effort to dethrone him and take control of the underwater city. Given his prominence as one of Aquaman's chief rogues in the comics, it's not much of a surprise that Orm would be chosen as the thorn in the Justice Leaguer's side. The actual design of Ocean Master's costume could draw from any number of iterations, but it's nice to have these pieces to hold us over while we wait.

For Wilson' part, he's actually not new to the DCEU. Earlier this year, he was the voice of the President who ordered the nuclear strike on Doomsday while the villain was fighting Superman and friends. Already on Zack Snyder's radar from his work as has-been hero Nite Owl in 2009's Watchmen, the director may have gone to bat for making Wilson's presence larger in the burgeoning film franchise. Wan probably didn't need much convincing, as he's already directed the actor in the Conjuring franchise. It's exciting to know that such a vetted performer and one quite familiar with the genre of superheroes has boarded the production. It's also a bit bittersweet for Marvel, who previously courted Wilson to play the role of Yellowjacket in 2015's Ant-Man. Either way, we'll soon learn who made the right call.
