Apple Watch sound alerts and notifications can both handy and bothersome at the same time and it takes a little fiddling to get the audio to a level that suits the wearer. Not every smartwatch is made perfect, and the Apple Watch has its fair share of problems, with noise being one of them.

Unlike smartwatches that rely on smartphones for sound, the Apple Watch comes with its own built-in speaker. When combined with its built-in microphone, Apple's smartwatch is capable of on-wrist Siri interactions, taking phone calls and alerting wearers via audio notifications. However, there are times when the smartwatch's audio can become too intrusive for the wearer, and especially in areas that are sensitive to noise. This makes the ability to fully customize the Apple Watch's audio a necessary feature to know about.

Most of the Apple Watch's basic functions, such as sound, can be altered via its Control Center, according to Apple. This can easily be accessed by simply swiping up from the bottom of the smartwatch's home screen. From here, Apple Watch wearers can mute their device by scrolling through the Control Center and tapping on the bell icon - it can be toggled off and back on again in the same way. Alternatively, wearers can also use the 'Do Not Disturb' feature instead, which prevents the smartwatch from alerting them with audio and visual notifications. This can be accessed by tapping on the crescent moon icon in the Control Center, then choosing between turning Do Not Disturb on permanently, or setting it up to deactivate at a certain time.

Manually Adjusting Volume & Notification Sound Levels

If Apple's popular smartwatch can play well with rival apps, then it can certainly adjust its volume to the exact degree specified by its wearer. To do that, visit the settings by tapping on the app with the gear icon. The volume bar can be found after selecting the Sounds & Haptics option. This can then be adjusted by tapping on either end of the volume bar, or by tapping on the slider and then twisting the Digital Crown, located on the side of the smartwatch.

Aside from the volume itself, specific notification sounds can also be tuned to be as subtle or as loud as the wearer desires. This can be done by swiping down from the top portion of the home screen, which opens the Notification Center. From here, users will need to swipe down and scroll through the menu, then swipe left on their desired notification. By selecting the triple-dot icon found here, users can choose how a certain notification is delivered. For example, selecting Deliver Quietly turns the sound alerts on that notification off, while Deliver Prominently turns it back on. Needless to say, the Apple Watch certainly has its wearer's needs covered, from giving them a customized user experience, to letting them eject water when needed.
