The surprise Marvel Studios hit of this past summer was undoubtedly the Peyton Reed directed Ant-Man, the superhero property that served to set a climactic close to Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while paving the way for such Phase 3 films as Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, and Thor: Ragnarok. After the departure of the initial writing and directing team of Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright, Peyton stepped up to the plate and delivered a surprisingly irreverent, yet heartfelt film that proved to be a capable success.
With a sequel set to feature Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reprising their roles as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne/the Wasp in Ant-Man and The Wasp, fans of Reed’s comic book heist film are likely already eager for more insectile action. As luck would have it, fans of the latest MCU feature film will be in luck come this 2015 holiday season.
Marvel Entertainment has just released an official trailer (see above) for the Blu-ray release of Reed’s film, available on Digital 3D and Digital HD come November 2015, and 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital SD, and VOD in December 2015. The home video release is set to include plenty of additional content exclusive to the Blu-ray packages, including such featurettes as “Making Of An Ant-Sized Heist: A How-To Guide,” “Let’s Go To The Macroverse,” various deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, and feature length audio commentary from Reed and Rudd.
For those who saw Marvel’s latest epic adventure of meager proportions on the big screen, procuring the feature on home video is undoubtedly appealing. Like Guardians of the Galaxy before it, Reed’s comic take on the superhero genre is a surprising and largely self-contained cinematic adventure — though its ties to all of the films that have come before and will inevitably follow make it canon, and therefore an indispensable addition to said ranks.
Come Christmas Day, many Scott Lang fanboys might just be hoping for a certain Blu-ray Combo Pack to be included in their individual stockings hung up the night before. And given the fact that the next film in the series won’t see theatrical release until 2018, Reed’s effort is likely to be a fan-favorite present to be found under many a tree.
Ant-Man will be available to purchase and own from participating retailers on November 17th, 2015 on Digital 3D and Digital HD, and on December 8th, 2015 on 3D Blu-Ray Combo Pack, Blu-Ray, DVD, Digital SD, and VOD.
