Dr. Strange Marvel Movie Ant Man & Doctor Strange Confirmed as Marvel Phase Three Movies

Marvel Studios has only one non-sequel in development that will release in the next two-and-a-half years, and that project has been dominating the headlines as of late with rapid fire reports and rumors surrounding the casting of Guardians of the Galaxy. It won’t be until after The Avengers 2 when a new hero will get a chance to headline their own film, thanks to Edgar Wright and his dedication to realizing Ant-Man on the big screen.

With Ant-Man releasing months after the second team-up event film, is it still part of “Phase Two” of the Marvel cinematic universe? No, in fact it’s in Phase Three where Doctor Strange will also finally have his own movie.

In chatting with MTV, Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige flat out confirmed the positioning of Ant-Man in the Marvel cinematic universe as the first step in Phase Three after The Avengers 2. He also iterates that the “only” reason it’s happening is because of the unique vision of Edgar Wright, who’s writing and directing the feature – after having been attached for years and years.

“‘Ant-Man’ is definitely part of Phase Three. Like ‘Iron Man 3,’ it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we’re making the movie… I’ve known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004. He asked me what Marvel was doing with ‘Ant-Man’ — we weren’t even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It’s very much an ‘Ant-Man’ origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we’ve seen before.”

Phase One was six films, Phase Two will only be five – not counting the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series that began shooting this week.

Like Guardians of the GalaxyAnt-Man will be the next Marvel Studios full-length feature to showcase and explore entirely new characters for the franchise, and its positioning after The Avengers 2 makes it rather clear that he will not be a main character in that story. Even before The Avengers 1, Edgar Wright said Ant-Man would need his origin tale told first before he could become a member of Earth’s Mightiest and while executives at Marvel considered the idea of having three movies in one year (i.e. Ant-Man in 2014) it wasn’t a realistic scenario.

“So much of the stories we’re telling [right now] is about the core ‘Avengers’ characters we’ve now met, and they’ll be evolving in big, surprising ways, in Cap’s next movie and Thor’s next movie and of course in ‘Iron Man 3,’ as we get them all into the next ‘Avengers’ film. Beyond that… ‘Ant-Man’ is the only one officially announced, but you probably don’t have to look too far to guess at the next list of characters we’re toying with and beginning to develop.”

Guardians of the Galaxy was one property frequently name-dropped by Feige, alongside Dr. Strange and The Inhumans, for over the last two years, representing riskier “out there” types of properties that delve deep into the sci-fi and fantasy realms of the Marvel Comics library. We of course know that Guardians is on its way to becoming a reality, and rumors in recent months had a potential Strange appearance in this fall’s Thor: The Dark World. So, after multiple reports of Marvel developing the project, is Doctor Stephen Strange actually going to get his chance?

“‘Doctor Strange,’ which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them. He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.”

Let’s hope it’s better than the 1978 TV movie.

Ant-Man is the film with the latest release date for fall 2015, which means the earliest we’ll see Dr. Strange, is 2016. Both will be separate chapters in Phase Three of the Marvel cinematic universe. We always knew they were going cosmic after The Avengers. Should Guillermo del Toro direct Doctor Strange? What about Black Panther?

More on this soon…

Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015 and Ant-Man on November 6, 2015.

  1. YES! Doctor stange is happening :’)

Heres hoping they announce Black Panther and a Iron Fist and Luke cage heroes for hire film…

though i wonder what characters they will need to cut… we cant have to many characters, Joss was able to do it bit this may be a bit much. any idea who could die? i would say iron man but that character alone probably sells more tickets

    • No killing Cap or Iron Man, that is the starting point before we discuss anything else. Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye did not impress me that much. Thor was better than I expected, so I guess keep him around, also. So I guess that means Cap, Iron man, and Thor will be around for a long, long time. Now, people to add: Goliath (Hank Pym in his cool blue and yellow outfit), Wasp, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver. The Avengers need all of these, even if Marvel has to do something way-out weird (I’d rather they didn’t make a 2nd. team), like form some of these into an East Coast or West Coast Avengers or something. As for villains, we need to see Ultron, Kang, and Skrulls in this franchise in the worst way!!

      • I would rather they keep Hawkeye, because he’s a big player in the comics. I didn’t really liked how they treated him as a character in the first Avengers movie, and neither did Jeremy Renner from what I’ve read, but he has to stay, he’s too cool. BW could go in my opinion. She never was a member of the Avengers for that long anyway, and her character is not that significant in the History of the Avengers. My guess is she was there only because she was a girl, and it would have been too complicated to put Wasp or Miss Marvel in the team just like that, without any background information.

But I do agree with everything you said. Ultron, Skrulls, that woulb be awesome!! Oh, except for the Scarlet Witch… can’t stand her! :-)

        • @Mary Jay, Yeah, I have to agree with you about Hawkeye. Hawkeye is a very snarky and sarcastic guy. In the Avengers movie, I was expecting him to call Iron Man “O’l Shellhead” and Captain America either “Old Man” or “Winghead”. When he did neither of those things nor did they show how he can be sort of a douche, I knew they dropped the ball on Clint “Hawkeye” Barton’s character. I’m pretty sure Marvel Studios has seen Jeremy Renner’s comment by now. I feel they’ll get it right in the next movie Hawkeye will be in.

As far as Black Widow is concerned, she’s sort of a wildcard, sort of like The Hulk, she can be there but not all of the time. I wouldn’t mind her going back to do spy work for S.H.I.E.L.D and bow out to make way for Janet Van Dyne. There needs to be room for Hank Pym and Janet so even though Hulk was great in Avengers, I’d rather see him come back in Avengers 3 to help fight against the biggest threat(Thanos possibly).

  2. wonderful news! while I really want to see a Black Panther movie, I’m glad Dr Strange is getting one, even if it’s 2016 :) yay!

    • Black Panther and Dr.; Strange are OK, but would rather see some others first, like Goliath, Quicksilver, Wasp, and Scarlet Witch. A heroes For Hire movie featuring Luke Cage and Iron Fist would be OK, too. While Guardians of the Galaxy sounds too goofy and does not thrill me at all, Inhumans might be decent.

      • Oh, and glad to see Ant-Man finally coming along. I like Hank Pym much better as Goliath, though.

        • This is Edgar Wright we are talking about so don’t get your hopes up about seeing the Hank Pym version of Ant-Man…..sadly.

      • We are so on the same page you and I! Could not agree more!!

  3. Ant-Man was almost obvious, but Dr. Strange? HELL YEAH!

  4. The Strange cartoon was prob one of my favs as far as marvel movies. hope the real movie is just as good, if not better

    • oh I need to check it out finally!

  5. Dr. Strange, wish it was sooner than at earliest 2016…but I’m getting a Dr. Strange movie so that’s friggin’ awesome. And yes, Guillermo del Toro or some other visually different director should definitely direct this.

    Also, thank you Edgar Wright!

  6. I think that Hulk and Black Widow will bow out in AV2.

    • THE ONLY way hulk would bow out is because he costs too much being ALL CGI, I would bet my house that Iron man will be out by the 3rd phase RDJ contract is up after A2 and he could always resign I think and it looks as if they are going for new characters! MAYBE pepper Potts dies in IM3 and, at the end of A2 to save earth or the other avengers Tony Stark will die as well. I still hope that the Hulk stays around and I WILL ALWAYS want just 1 more hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo to see if it can stand on its own! Dont care about BW or Hawkeye, (they should die) and it looks like there might not be cap 3 or thor 3 which I always thought they would be trilogies like IM, IF SO then that just might be the whole Phase 3 lineup? AntMan,Cap 3, Thor3 Dr. Strange, and if the do only a 5 movie phase then will it be a 3rd Avengers or a 6 movie and then we can have a Black Panther then A3… I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THEY DO, but I have a feeling Everyone will NOT BE happy.

      • Actually, RDJ’s contract is up after IM3, but looking at how much money he made with TA1, I think he’ll be staying on a while longer (he’ll definitely be in TA2, and I’m predicting that he’ll have a smaller role in TA3).

Hulk has never really been in the Avengers team for very long. He always goes off on his own again and occasionally rejoins for short periods of time… so if they’re sticking close to the source material, don’t count on him being around for TA3 either.

I have no idea what’ll happen to Hawkeye and Black Widow in the future marvel movies, but I doubt they’ll get killed off soon (and if one of them dies, i’ll be Hawkeye who goes first though).

One thing’s for certain though, the roster can’t get too big. There are loads of reasons for this, but I’m certain the folks over at Marvel Studios know that once they have 8+ members on the team, they’re running a big risk… so because of that, I think we’ll be seeing some of the original members take a back seat to the new characters when we hit Phase 3.

        • @The Avenger, thanks, that’s the main reason why I said that I don’t think that the Hulk will be in TA2 because of him being a wild card and Black Widow is the same. They go off on their own a lot, especially Black Widow on her spy missions and the Hulk because of Banner constantly chased down by factions of the GOP and other people. Characters who are guaranteed to reprise their roles(not actors)are: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America. As for who should be in TA2, my opinion is Iron Man, Thor, Cap, G.I.A.N.T-Man, Wasp, Hawekeye, Black Panther and Photon aka Monica Rambeau(Captain Marvel).

      • But Fiege said even if RDJ resigns they will hire another actor for portraying Stark, just like Bond series. That means Ironman is moreover a trilogy and also it wont be rebooted either.

  7. Best news all day. To bad it wont be phase two, however.

  8. I have really high hopes for Guardians and Ant-Man! Can’t wait for Dr. Strange!!

  9. Im really not sure what i think of this. I dont know anyone of these characters well enough to make a judgement. I can only hope Marvel knows what they’re doing and the way things are going right now, i have high hopes for these films. Because, movie-wise, Marvel’s doing pretty damn well compared to DC and so that puts my expectations really up there whereas im skeptical as to how DC/WB are going to lay out Justice League by just jumping right in AND having to reboot Batman if they want to make it all work our smoothly

    • I am more a Marvel guy overall, but really like Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and The Flash (Barry Allen). I am quite anxious for a JLA movie, but it needs to be done right…lotta dollars and reputation riding on this! I’d also like to see a team-up movie between Flash and Green Lantern, a Flash movie, another Green Lantern movie, and a team-up movie between Dr. Fate (Kent Nelson) and Hourman (Rex Tyler)!
Although they are not Marvel or DC properties, I might toss in that I want a T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents movie, as well (Dynamo, Menthor, Noman, Lightning, the Thunder Squad, against Warlord, Iron Maiden, etc…..Can’t beat it!!)

  10. Sigh. Once again Black panther getting a shun and a slap across the face at that. No justice,no piece Marvel! LOL!

    • I bet Black Panther will have a movie in Phase 3.They have 3 or 4 years to work on the script.

      • I dont think they will with sequals and possibly a hulk film as well maybe shield

    • Bet it’s right down the pipe. Took some time for Dr. Strange to get announced. I’d put my money down that Black Panther is coming.

      • I hope you guys are right. I suspect there is a reason they are holding off making Black Panther and for some reason I don’t think it is a good one.

So there is no director, no script, no rumors, no actors being contacted so I am guessing no serious thoughts on doing the movie.. no kidding around either.

I think you have to strike while the iron is hot and right now superhero movies are doing well but can we say the same thing in 2020? It is foolish to think superheroes movies will catch and keep the heart of the casual fans forever. Don’t get it twisted, there are more casual fans than fanboys going to these movies at the moment. I hope they don’t wait to late to bring out BP. The time is NOW!

  11. Sounds to me like phase 3 is gonna take us away from the main Avengers line up. First Ant Man, now Dr Strange… Who else will we get?

    • They will probably have thor 3 and cap 3

  12. OH YEAH!!! Hopefully this will mean we will finally get Black Panther, Iron Fist and Luke Cage! I wanna see Moon Knight also. I’m crossing my fingers for an Ant Man post credits scene in Iron Man 3.

    • Moon Knight…yes, I could get behind that idea as well!

  13. Finally Dr. Strange will be coming to the big screen, awesome!! So who should play the role of the good Dr. ?

    • Liam neeson no doubt.

    • i say Wes Bentley for Dr Strange if he does not get the gaurdians of the galaxy

  14. Im curious, any one know what Marvel’s going to do with the Hulk? ‘Cause they change the actor every freakin movie and its so g****** confusing by this point

    • The Hulk, Little Green Sprout, and Jolly Green Giant are getting the band back together. Now eat your sweet-peas….

      • Hahaha, thats funny. Really it is….. no but seriously, what does Marvel plan on doing with the Hulk?

        • they said they will not do anything UNTIL after Avengers 2 but I think that is looking less and less likely….:( bumms me out because hulk was always my favorite and I think a Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo will do better than both of the other 2!! OH WELL i fear our only Hulk hopes now are with the avengers movies or the gay Ed norton movie! Which I liked until the Avengers, NOW, he just dont even look right.

          • Mark Ruffalo signed a six-picture contract for the Banner/Hulk role.

            • @Cave-ish Man, that’s just to keep him locked in. Marvel may choose NOT to reprise his role in any future film.It may turn out that he may only do two more films, it all depends on what Marvel wants to do with the Hulk and what movies they choose to put him in.

              • After he practically stole the show in Avengers? Not likely. He was a fan favorite and I can’t imagine dumping him but keeping the lame Black Widow instead (other than the fact that she’s the only female)…..OMH we NEED Wasp!

    • There’s really nothing to be confused about with the Hulk movies. First, Edward Norton played Bruce Banner in 2008′s “The Incredible Hulk” and then Mark Ruffalo played him in “The Avengers”. Aside from different actors, the continuity is still there. There’s one moment in Avengers when Tony Stark tells Banner that he should come over to Stark Tower sometime and Banner replies: “Well, last time I was in NY…I kind of broke Harlem”. And Harlem is where Hulk fought Abomination in the 2008 film. Also, the whole idea of any attempt to kill Banner (or Banner trying to kill himself) makes him change into the Hulk. That was also established in the 2008 movie.

The Hulk film by Ang Lee in 2003 doesn’t fit into that overall continuity because it wasn’t made by Marvel Studios. At that time, Marvel was not even a movie studio yet. So, I personally choose to ignore the 2003 film in terms of continuity.

But anyway, I really love the Hulk too, and I’m really hoping that Marvel makes plans for another Hulk movie at SOME point. I’m excited about Ant-Man and Dr. Strange, but c’mon Marvel…LET’S HAVE MORE HULK!!!

  15. Yeah boy!

But who do you think the other characters in phase 3 will be?

  16. Tears of joy!!! 2016 is a long ways away but it will come I’m excited

  17. ok nice news and all but i want a Black Panther and Heroes for Hire in Phase Three.

    • @mace: I with you man! I dare Marvel to make the movie! If they want a real challenge and the opportunity to open up the Marvel universe to more fans than the stereotypical current movie audience, this is one way to do it.

  18. Phase 3: Ant Man and Doctor Strange so far, and I’m pretty sure they will throw in Thor 3 and Cap 3, though it’s possible they go in a different direction. I feel like not everyone should get a trilogy. I think they definitely need to give a female hero a solo movie, such as Captain/Ms. Marvel. Or they could do a SHIELD movie with Black Widow and Hawkeye in starring roles, and maybe even Bucky depending on the events of The Winter Soldier. People of course also want Black Panther and a Hulk sequel…So much to do!!

    • I recall a female Captain Marvel who was a gorgeous black gal in a white uniform way back in the older Avengers comics. Now she was good in the comics, as I recall…how about her?

      • Wow i’ve never heard of her! Time to do some research!

        • the character is Monica Rambeau she also took over as Captain Marvel

      • u mean Monica Rambeau

        • She looks like Storm with black hair. :-)

      • She was in the Galactic Storm storyline. Not sure of her name tho.

      • @Goldilocks, Even though Captain Marvel a.k.a “Photon” is a C-tier character, I think that she needs to be brought to the forefront, especially in the MCU. In the Avengers movie, there were NO black females present at all. Not even Black female S.H.I.E.L.D agents. The Avengers needs a female person of color on the team also. You can’t make the team a Beniton commercial but at least put a female person of color on the team too and I think that “Photon” would work because she’s a good character, there aren’t any popular Black female superheroes besides Storm, and Photon is a good leader. I think her she is the current “Captain Universe” they should put her in and keep her that way within the MCU. She could become a MUCH more well known character and there are some good Black actresses out there that could do a great job portraying her.

        • or at least some ethnic diversity with an awesome tier2 character (with full movie potential I might add) *cough* Black Panther *cough*

  19. I’m wondering how these Phases will work? I mean, after Avengers 2 I’m betting most of that cast will be on the way out. So I’m wondering what they will do to end each successive phase, will they have a big team movie with a different Avengers roster, or will they just do smaller team-ups with cameos and such to keep integration with the separate characters.

  20. Sweet Doctor Strange and Ant-Man are awesome can’t wait for them, I love ant-man so much and to be honest I’m bummed it’s not coming earlier and I’m bummed he won’t be in avengers 2 but I’m thrilled that he is getting a movie I want to know who the hell is playing him though!!!!! Amd I sadly won’t find out till later. Now the question in the article do you think del toro could do doc strange? That’s really a big fat rhetorical question… YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully phase 3 is doctor strange and black panther that just spells freakin awesome to me.

    • VIGGO MORTENSEN… should play Dr. Strange

  21. This is excellent. Thor and Avengers had a limited presence of magic through Loki. But with Malekith as the big baddie in Thor:TDW, and Doctor Strange coming out, we can expect mysticism to expand. With mysticism expanded, it would be awesome to introduce the Hand in the SHIELD tv series, which could then crossover with a potential Daredevil series/movie since Marvel got the rights back.

    • Thor ( In the movies ) doesn’t deal magic, only advance science we don’t yet understand soldier.

      • @Steve Rogers, I think that they will be veering slowly away from that somewhat with Alan Taylor’s Thor. There are three major realms where magic IS used with other combinations. “Asgard” is VERY similar to He-Man’s “Eternia”(tech & Magic), “Svartalheim”(realm of the Dark Elves) utilizes MUCH dark sorcery and “very little tech if any at all”, and “Nidavellir”(realm of the dwarves) mostly deal with the highest combinations magic Blacksmith work, and tech/weaponry. All of the other realms deal with MUCH more pure magic and or sorcery. The “magic is misunderstood science” concept was needed to bridge the gap between Thor’s and Iron Man’s world within the Avengers for the “general audience” and how could they realistically coexist without looking stupid. It worked in the Avengers and now it’s no longer needed so they can delve deeper.
Dr.Strange has just been confirmed and Kevin Feige said that Dr.Strange WILL BE WITHIN the MCU and as I’m sure you know, Dr.Strange’s world IS all about Magic, Mysticism, and the occult.

      • Nah, it’s magic and science together. They’re the same thing up on Asgard. Thor even tells us that in the first film.

  22. I for one can’t wait to see what they do with mark ruffalo and the hulk in the avengers 2. it was expressed that a planet hulk movie might be possible after avengers 2. which would just be f—in amazing to see an all out action hulk. to see hulk have to fight for his life. i hope that phase 3 will show what has happened to the main characters after avengers 2. they all still have places to go and if hulk is a big hit in 2 like he was in 1 then they should give him a sequel.

    • Im curious to know what they’ ll be doing with the Hulk also, but it definitely wont be Planet Hulk. At least not in the foreseeable future. This is because the events of Planet Hulk take place as the Civil War is going on and for Marvel to make a Civil War film it would take alot of time and an even MORE amount of money. For those of you who dont know, what happened was when Bruce Banner hears one of his closest friends dies he turns into Hulk and literally destroys half of Las Vegas out of frustration and so is exiled into space. While the events of Planet Hulk are happening the Civil War breaks out as a partial result of what happened in Las Vegas and the heroes take two sides: one led by Captain America and the other by Iron-Man and the two sides duke it out. After the war Hulk returns to Earth and they all live happily ever after the end.

      • With the post battle news scenes of people not being comfortable with these heros around and the politicians claiming that this was their battle and where are they now when everyone knows they just stepped up to save the world not start the fight. anyways its easy to see that at least on earth in the marvel cinematic universe that they have looked at the civil was for a possible story line. it would just take their own hashing out events to get it there and hulk to make planet hulk. i like the other guys idea of how a possible planet hulk could come about.

  23. Awesome

    So after Avengers 2

    Antman (Fall 2015)
    Cap 3 (May 2016)
Hulk (July 2016) (personally I’d like to see a story inspired from Planet Hulk…I have a whole idea how it’d happen)
    Thor 3 (May 2017)
    Dr. strange (Nov 2017)

Black Panther maybe…,,Also a possibility for a GotG sequel if it does well….maybe with Ironman in it like I know the recent run of comics had….or you know just an Ironman 4 ha….really depends on whether Avengers 3 is in 2018 or 2019

    • Like mentioned above, Planet Hulk would take some serious deication and if you read my post you’ll understand why. Though i wouldnt mind hearing your idea

      • Ok cool

Idea is this, and this is contingent on Thanos being the Villain in Avengers 2 (which is close to a 100% likelihood)

The Planet Hulk storyline as it was in the comic wont work, and they wouldn’t want to use it because they will not make him a villain…it’s just mere inspiration.

So in Avengers 2 during the first physical confrontation between Thanos and the team….I think it makes sense that the Hulk would charge in and attack him to do the same to Thanos as he did Loki….however Thanos has the fully gemed Infinity gauntlet now and he uses it to beat The Hulk swiftly…. ending with Thanos using the space gem (purple) to send him to the other side of the galaxy. This would give the appearance of death and really up the stakes for the team and movie as a whole. The Easter egg at the end of A2 is a hooded figure on an Alien world…he looks up to the stars, cut to a shot mid air looking up into the sky and with a flash of the same effect that the purple gem gave off The Hulk appears and starts hurtling towards the camera….it goes to black as he passes the camera then a loud Hulk yell.

        On to the movie

Overview is this.,,,Planet Hulk would be a very personal journey where Banner and The Hulk come together and Banner fully embraces it. Banner and The Hulk need each other to get off Sakaar. We walk away from this with a decently intelligent Hulk…at least one that can carry on some conversation.

Besides that it can basically be the same story, the gladiator stuff, The Warbound, which can be tweaked to include other more popular cosmic characters to introduce them to the MCU. This is another really good place to showcase some of the different Alien species.

But the fight against the Red King and everything still works, that and the Gladiatorial stuff is great action….one reason why people loved The Hulk in The Avengers is he could be let loose on Aliens, because they couldn’t do that with the Military in the other movies too much, well that continues here ten fold. Add a good internal struggle/bonding of Banner & Hulk instead of the love story in the comics and I think it could be a fantastic film.

As far as him leaving I think It makes sense to have it be The Guardians of the Galaxy that find him….maybe Tony is with them if they want to do what they did in the recent comics….it makes sense for Tony to want to check out the alien technology and is the most qualified, after banner himself, to find The Hulk/Bruce.

I don’t know just my thoughts ha

This also prepares the Hulk to go up against the Leader and make that movie more compelling than it would now. Not sure when that would be though.

        • Thats actually a pretty good idea and could work, just one question. Could the Civil War take part in any if this? Or would that not really matter because of the way your story is setup? I mean obviously it would take time, effort and dedication to make all that happen but if Marvel could pull it off that would be fantastic. I think if Marvel was to do a Planet Hulk that would be the best way to go about it, way to get creative

          • I vaguely remember a scene in The Avengers where someone points out a destroyed part of the city and it was due to Hulk’s last rage before he left town again… maybe? Or I dreamed it.

With that said, all it takes is a simple scene like that to be introduced at the beginning of Planet Hulk to get him exiled.

In regards to having “too many characters”… Thor (although my favorite Marvel character ever) is expendable. He only comes to Earth as necessary. He doesn’t like to get involved in Earths issues. He has his own world in Asgard to deal with.

            • That could possibly work but the flaw there is that he destroyed part of the city trying to save it (ironically enough) whereas in the events leading up to Planet Hulk/Civil War he destroys half of Vegas out of pure rage. I think Ace’s take on connecting the Avenger’s 2 and a Planet Hulk storyline would work really well, read his post and you’ll see what i mean.

              • I don’t think it would work. Not saying its not a good story but Hulk was exiled. That was his emotional battle throughout the entire film. He was alone and for once, wasn’t the only big guy. You take away that, and the movie is useless.

                • True about the exile part….but I mean he still is on his own…..and would likely think he doesnt have much of a chance of getting home. But it finally forces banner to do what he’s only barely been able to do and 1 on 1 connect with the Hulk to meld themselves into a more cohesive thing. But instead of sitting on a mental couch hashing it out he has to do it with the threat of death at every turn, especially from those giant creatures.

In the MCU I think it makes a lot of sense….because not only would it be a cool movie….it’d be very different which they always say they want. It also helps build on the future because a smarter Hulk is needed I think if they are ever going to do a Hulk solo film against The Leader (I called him Brainiac in my first post ha, I’m dumb) and it would be an added dynamic for Avengers 3…I can only imagine What they’d do between him and Stark.

The Hulk needs to be smarter because we don’t need another Hulk film where the army goes after him, he destroys part of (x) city, and shows a bit of Bruce/control when it matters. This idea kinda gets him there and can be a launching point or just a touchstone for a lot of marvel’s cosmic expansion.

          • Ha glad you liked it

It terms of Civil War it’d be fine…they could place his return to Earth in Avengers 3 anywhere…..either he’s already back, shows up in the middle, really anything.

The idea was made with the thought that they wouldn’t do it however and he comes in halfway through Avengers 3 …….where some version of the Masters of Evil are the villains, way I see it all these Heroes and Villains have movies with backstory and everything so they could actually make a really good Avengers vs Masters of Evil

        • @Ace, Joss Whedon said that TA2 will be a smaller and more personal movie. That rules Thanos OUT. In the comics, it took the entire Marvel Universe to challenge Thanos….And he still beat them. I don’t think Marvel will stray too much away from the source material and will de-power Thanos that much, make him the villain for TA2 then in TA3 make someone more powerful than him, that doesn’t make sense.

A smaller more personal story is definitely NOT Thanos material because Thanos is a “GALACTIC THREAT” not just earth. ULTRON however, is an earthly threat and VERY personal because of who created him.

  24. I wish Marvel will just be honest and that they have no interest in making a Black Panther movie because it seems like they don’t. Doctor Strange is cool in my book, but Ant-Man?? really?? Ant-Man isn’t interesting, nor is he badass (not even an ounce of badassery lol) I rather them do Namor, Moon Knight or Runaways.

    • Daniel Day-Lewis as Doctor Strange would be classic!!!!!

      • He would never do a superhero film

        • @Trey If the script was amazing, he would

    • Does being a superhero always require badassery? Some people actually appreciate a little more brains instead or brawn (although he has both). I think it’s a good thing to have superheroes, rolemodels, who can actually think things through and try to come up with solutions that don’t involve people getting punched and things blowing up. Sure, if by “interesting” you mean beating people up, making wisecracks at others, not taking anything seriously or blowing up buildings, nope, he’s not “interesting”. But I find interesting the fact that someone can understand a new concept in a few seconds, invent stuff in two hours, or have four different labs in his pockets.

I can identify myself a lot more to heroes like Ant-Man than Iron Man, Thor or Hawkeye. And I’m sure a lot of other people can too. I like a hero who can use his head to solve a problem :-)

      • +1

      • @Mary Jay, GREAT point, Henry Pym is an interesting character because although he’s a genius, he’s flawed because of his mental issues and low self esteem. Constantly trying to re-invent himself or prove himself and having personality disorder is what makes the character more grounded and interesting aside from his abilities just from a pure character stand point.

    • I guess you’ve never seen him as Goliath because being 100′ tall I would think is the epitome of, “badass”.

  25. Runaways was a female punk rock band back in about the 70s, weren’t they?

    • True, but Marvel has a team called The Runaways, they are teens who are on the run from their parents aka The Pride.

  26. Wow universe is getting bigger I hope all goes well I think we will eventually see black panther movie Luke cage and iron fist and we will see wasp in antman inhumans and people dissing antman obviously you haven’t read the comics he is brilliant smart kind of funny especially between him and iron man and wasp but he is a great character still waiting for black panther though not sure who will be black panther but I agree del torro should do the dr strange movie would be awsome

    • I’ve read the comics, he’s nothing special.

  27. What if Jamie Foxx played Doctor Strange?

    • Don’t see that happening since he’s playing Electro in Amazing Spiderman 2. You don’t want to cross the streams like that.

  28. I like to dream that Marvel would get back the rights to Ghost Rider and the Dr. Strange movie would help reboot that franchise.

  29. I’m surprised at some of the comments acting as though Ant-Man wasn’t officially announced with a 2015 release date months ago.

Also, wasn’t Viggo Mortensen being considered for Doctor Strange?

    • yah he was one of the ppl being considered i would love to see viggo as doc strange and this is great news. ant man and doc strange f yea!! ahh the nerd in me =D
