The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been around since Samuel L. Jackson made his first appearance as Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man in 2008 and announced the Avengers Initiative. Since then, the massive blockbuster franchise has grown to include 13 films and a handful of television series all set in various corners of the MCU. Marvel Studios officially kicked of Phase 3 of their cinematic universe earlier this year with Captain America: Civil War, which featured many of the movie heroes battling it out over whether superheroes should be regulated by a governing body.
Now, in honor of Comic-Con International in San Diego this year, two of the heroes from Civil War – namely the titular hero himself, Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America, and Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man – have received new posters exclusively from Mondo.
io9 unveiled the Mondo posters, including one of Ant-Man designed by Ken Taylor. The former variant will be on sale at Mondo’s booth during SDCC, while the latter will be made available online at a later date. Check out the Ant-Man posters:
As for Cap, the posters are a throwback to the Star Spangled Man’s first Marvel Studios film, Captain America: The First Avenger, featuring one design by Rory Kurtz, and one by Stan and Vince that has two variants including Steve Rogers’ different Captain America costumes from the movie. The Kurtz and first Stan and Vince posters will be available at SDCC, while the variant will be available online at a later time. Take a look:
Considering the positive response to Ant-Man’s appearance in Civil War – plus his solo outing last year – and the fact that the third Captain America installment was Marvel Studios’ big release of the early part of 2016, it makes sense that Mondo would give these characters a new look for the massive fan convention in San Diego. Plus, 2016 marks the 75th Anniversary of the Captain America character, which will be celebrated elsewhere by the unveiling of a statue commemorating our favorite Star Spangled Man with a plan.
That being said, the Marvel Studios panel likely won’t have much to do with either Captain America or Ant-Man, instead focusing on their upcoming releases. Cast and crew for both Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 have confirmed their appearances during the Marvel Studios Hall H panel on Saturday of Comic-Con. Still, though the panel focused on the MCU may be looking ahead, fans will have the opportunity to snag some cool artwork featuring two of their favorite heroes from the Mondo booth thanks to these new Ant-Man and Captain America posters.
Doctor Strange opens in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017; Spider-Man: Homecoming – July 7, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017; Black Panther – February 16, 2018; Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018; Ant-Man and the Wasp – July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019; Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 – May 3, 2019; and as-yet untitled Marvel movies on July 12, 2019, and on May 1, July 10, and November 6 in 2020.
