The cast for Ant-Man & the Wasp continues to grow, with new comic characters Bill Foster, Ghost, and Sonny Burch added. While Avengers: Infinity War has just wrapped shooting, the rest of 2017 will see Marvel continuing to work on the rest of their slate. Along with Avengers 4, the sequel to Ant-Man will begin filming soon for a 2018 release. So far, we don’t know much about the story. Luckily, we’ve learned plenty about the expanding cast of the new film.
We’ve known for awhile that Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, and Michael Douglas will be returning, along with Michael Pena and T.I. More recently, however, we’ve learned of some new castings. Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys) will be coming aboard, along with Walter Goggins. The film is also set to explore the original Wasp and introduce Bill Foster (aka Goliath) to the MCU. Now, we finally have details on each of the new additions.
During Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that John-Kamen will be playing the villainous Ghost in Ant-Man & the Wasp. Meanwhile, Laurence Fishburne has joined the film as Dr. Bill Foster. And rounding out the new cast is Goggins as Sonny Burch.
Burch is a relatively obscure character, introduced in the early aughts as the chairman of Cross Technologies. With Darren Cross lost in the Quantum Realm, Burch will likely be the new corporate villain of the film. As for the main big bad, Ghost will bring something new and spooky to the MCU.
Along with Burch, Ghost is mostly connected to Iron Man. Still, the thief and occasional anti-hero has certainly caused trouble for a number of heroes. Though Ghost is presented as male in the comics, no one knows anything about the person under the mask. A brilliant inventor, Ghost’s suit allows the villain to become intangible and invisible. He’s also a master hacker. It’s likely Ghost will be a former Cross Tech employee, but we could see the character help fight a bigger threat. In the comics, Ghost has occasionally worked with the Thunderbolts as a reformed villain. Not only could the characters appearance in the MCU set up a Thunderbolts film, but Ghost could walk an interesting line in the film.
Finally, Dr. Bill Foster is best known as the size-chaning hero Goliath in the comics. Given Fishburne’s age, it’s safe to assume we’ll be seeing a retired version of the hero. He’ll likely also have a connection to Hank Pym and Janet van Dyn.
Speaking of the original Wasp, Michelle Pfieffer was announced as Janet van Dyne during Marvel’s panel as well. Whether we’ll see her in flashbacks or she’ll be rescued from the Quantum Realm. it’s unknown. Also joining the cast will also be Randal Park as SHIELD agent Jimmy Woo, which we learned about last week. With Ant-Man & the Wasp filming soon, we should find out a lot more about the movie in the coming weeks.
