Another X-Files Movie Coming? YAWN…

x files Another X Files Movie Coming? YAWN...The very plugged in site IESB reports that finally, another X-Files movie is very close to getting final sign off and being made. They had a chance to speak to David Duchovny who stated that they were in final negotiations for the film and that production should commence in 2008.

As I’ve stated here before: Does anyone really care about X-Files any more? Chris Carter abused the fans so completely towards the end of the show’s run that I don’t know how even fans of the original will care to show up for a theatrical movie based on the series. I mean, wasn’t the last X-Files movie supposed to answer all the questions and tie up all the loose ends?

Except that, oh yeah. It DIDN’T.

The IESB article doesn’t state whether Carter would be involved or not, although I can’t imagine he wouldn’t be. He hasn’t produced or directed anything since the show went off the air what, five years ago? Duchovny hasn’t been burning up the screen lately either. I suppose I can’t blame them (if Carter is involved) in trying to re-light this fire, but I don’t think it’s going to catch.

I’ve compared Lost to X-Files more than once, stating how dangerous it is to lead your audience around by the nose for too long with no satisfying final destination. Fans of a show can be very forgiving, but everyone has a limit (look at Star Trek with the awful Voyager series and the first couple of seasons of Enterprise).

If it gets made, another X-Files movie will be a non-event.

  1. Another interesting point is that Duchovny has been saying this for the last few years “close to a deal”, “film due next year”, and it never happens.

Actors are always dropping rumours to help their chances of something happening, just to build momentum and hype on a project.

I guess we’ll have to wait this week out and see.

  2. I don’t know, I dig it. However, I only watched maybe 4-5 eps a season. Don’t know why. I started buying the DVDs, but I only got through most of Season 1 before a bad scratched disc grinded me to a halt. I’ll eventually get the disc replaced, but I’m not in a hurry.

  3. I suppose there could be some appeal to the casual viewer of the series, but the I think the target audience for this burnt out on it.

  4. I´d like to see a movie based on the main plot, but they´ve got to make a stand alone movie because of the people who haven´t seen the series. But most important is to see scully and mulder again. Imo x-files is the best series ever. I miss the special relashionship between scully and mulder. I hope so much they make this movie.

  5. Woah! Of course people still care about XF2! The X-Files fan base is still huge and very present. We’ve got major, active forums…I still watch the show almost everyday, haha. It’s my life.

And Duchovny has done plenty of movies in my opinion. I don’t think he’s trying to gain attention for himself by talking about it, like another commenter said. He was just feeding the hungry fans by telling him what he knows…its all anyone ever asks about! Whenever he’s on a talk show (Jay Leno, etc.) they always get that out of the way. For all he knew, it was going to happen. It’s not his fault it hasn’t happened yet! This film has been “in the works” since the show ended. But there was this big lawsuit between FOX and CC for a very long time that recently ended.

Hopefully it will happen. There’s no saying whether or not it will. It has just as much of a chance as never ever happening. Baah, I’m not even sure if I would like there being a new one, actually. It all depends on how they handle it. But believe me – people care! It was on some most anticipated movie list in a magazine awhile back.

I know it’s frustrating. And because of all this talk and no action it has become kind of a joke. Oh well. It’s still my favorite series!
