It really seemed to me that by the third film they were really stretching a great concept beyond recognition..it becamse so convoluted and confusing by the end I lost interest halfway through Scream 3..A reboot won’t work either..Horror films need some new blood and fresh ideas instead of all the torture films out there and all the reboots of B-Movies from the 70’s and 80’s…It’s not that hard to scare people…it is hard however to get into a person’s head and get a scary concept to remain and linger and make you think about it after the movie is over..and for it to still scare you after the film has finished…

Ugh. If they aren’t talking about reboots they’re talking about trilogies.

Just make a movie the best you can. There have been some great movies that were set up for sequels which never happened because they saved the good stuff for the sequels, forgetting that people want to see a good movie, not a movie that is the set up to a good movie.

Even worse is when they make a movie that stops half way because they anticipate a sequel that never eventuates. I’m looking at you Kung Fu Cult Master.

And why does a horror movie need a trilogy? I can understand if it was a set character as the killer and they want to do a character arc.
eg Jason from Friday the 13th finds true love and redeems his ways in the sequel to the reboot, then she gets killed off at their wedding by the mafia at the start of the 3rd movie and it becomes a revenge flick.

Mind you I love both the Evil Dead and Basket Case trilogies, but none of the current batch of horror makers have that vision required to make it work.
