The age difference between Gambit and Rogue won’t cause a problem really, just have the original contender for Gambit, Josh Holloway (Lost), playing him “in the present”.

Also, I have NO interest in any X-Men spinoffs (let’s face it – SUBSTITUTES), they should just give us the real thing, X-Men 4!

We don’t need *everyone* to return (too expensive), just enough of the established characters to keep us going through another chapter. X-Men could go on forever, if handled right – come back Mr Singer!

H.O.M.E.R. says:

yes i would love to see her back in the role

we see her now almost 9 years older than the first time she took the role of Rogue. the movie would have to be a continuity rather than an origin movie.

to bad the current story wont support the relationship between rogue and gambit as i always found interesting the whole debate of not being togheter

Wait, didn’t Rogue take the cure in X3?

Rob Keyes says:

She can’t be in First Class since they announced it as a prequel to the X-Films, before she was even introduced to the X-Men, Xavier and the mansion. This is a good thing since she didn’t have any powers, and that was overdone in the X-Trilogy.

I could see Jubilee in it, but Kitty Pryde would be too young, she was a tween in the first X-Men film from her cameo.

The sure-fire characters are Cyclops, Jean and Beast. The other two originals, Iceman and Angel can’t be in it from what they’ve done (although I suppose a very young Iceman could be but we saw he didn’t develop his ice ability that young).

I’m sticking to my guns with Emma – they desperately wanted a storyline involving her for X3 and they introduced her on purpose in Wolverine for a reason…

…I should write a new X-Men: First Class discussion post to go over the possibilities

@Dan@movieviral

I think Magneto showed us in the end that the cure is no cure at all but a suppression.

The Voice says:

yeah are they going to make her younger or something? lol

The Voice says:

and she wants to do more action scenes? what could she do that would be good action? i doubt much.

Kofi Outlaw says:

@ The Voice

She kicked pretty good ass in the True Blood pilot…

The Voice says:

@kofi
Interesting. I didn’t see that. Thought she was weak from the xmen movies.

hud says:

i cant stand her with that horrible accent

Nen says:

I really don’t care for rogue, I just want MORE of Kitsch’s GAMBIT.

EnglishGavz says:

X-Men 3 and the whole cure stuff as well as several kills basically meant that to make a X4 they’d need an amazing plot line to deal with all that stuff.

Bill Blume says:

I think (and hope) Variety’s picks for characters in “X-Men: First Class” just demonstrate how little they really know jack about the X-Men universe.

@Rob… I tend to think your picks are pretty much dead-on. A part of me really wishes they’d introduce Banshee, but I just don’t see that happening. I think he’s too old of a character for there to be much interest in him, which is unfortunate, because he was such a cool character.

Bill Blume says:

@The Voice… if they ever find a way for the movie version of Rogue to gain the super-strength and flight powers that the comic book version possesses, then she could be a lot of fun for fight scenes. I’m not holding out much hope there, though. I think any plot twist that would require her gaining those powers just would be awful.

Zipper Stevens says:

Sentinels! Damn it! 25 feet tall with the Claremont era paint job! and Nimrod pops up in the end chasing Cable and Bishop through time.

Threaza says:

I don’t think it would be a problem for Gambit and Rogue to be together in a movie because of the ‘Elixir of Life’ that the Thieves Guild have. So, Gambit won’t be much older (if at all) than he appears in ‘XMO:Wolverine’, in a spin-off with Rogue.

Besides, in a franchise that has Tyler Mane (?) and Liev as *both* Sabretooth, I don’t think it would be a problem at all. Taylor and Anna would look hot together too! :)

T says:

What the hey, they messed with the continuity and characters, what’s a 20 year discrepancy so long as it sells tickets…. maybe whipping Gateway out of the outback and having his bullroarer pull Gambit from the past to present would do the trick…

Josh R says:

I have to agree with Threaza. The continuity is shot, but that’s no reason not to work a Gambit/Rogue story into a movie.

There are several ways they can make it work. Do X4, and bring in Kitsch as Gambit again. Either give him some makeup so he looks ten/twenty years older and just have an age gap between the two, or make up some bs about Gambit not aging very quickly, sort of like Wolverine and Sabertooth, but without the healing factor, obviously. It doesn’t really mesh with the source material either way, but its better than nothing.

Or, just bring him in as is and just sort of ignore the fact that he hasn’t aged at all in twenty years. I’m sure that would bug a bunch of people, but I’d be fine with that.

Iron Knight says:

“X-Men First Class is currently slated for release sometime in 2010″.

Wow, could this really happen for next year?

I totally think they should continue with an X-Men 4 instead of going for unnecessary prequels (this shouldn’t count for Wolverine, but as that movie failed for me I think now it does). Mainly two reasons for that:

1.- Give a proper ending to the saga (you’ve got to be kidding me with X-Men 3)
2.- How much more could they ridiculously screw every character or add them just for the sake of it in the movies? I think the best example of this is the recent take on “Deadpool”, if we can called him like that.

Iron Knight says:

Oh and BTW, I think Emma Frost IS going to be in this supposed prequel. But I’m actually thinking, who should they cast as a younger Jean Grey and Storm. I liked how Famke Janssen did her character IN X-MEN (the first one).

FRANK says:

I think X-Men 3 was garbage, they could have done way better. For one killing Xavier was to early of a decision even though he comes back in that coma guys body. So many good stories before all of that, like the Morlocks, or Apocalypse or Sinister even the whole Sentinel thing awesome plots to go by. I cant understand why with so much material at hand these guys cant make a great film.

Logan says:

they need to make a days of future past storyline to forget about the crap in x men 3

William says:

she wouldn’t fit in first class but i would love to see her again

Ken J says:

I agree with Rob, I don’t see how Rogue can be in a prequel to X-Men.

dannyboy says:

I can see Iceman back in this movie, since they killed off his Olsen character in Smallville. The X-Men movies just keep getting worse, and now all of a sudden their worried about continuity in the movies? That’s about as ridiculous as a non-Russian Colossus……………..

dannyboy says:

Sorry got off track there, but I would love to see her back as Rogue….. But would really love a movie with Apocalypse…..

PS says:

I would love to see Anna Paquin back as Rogue in another film. She needs to absorb Ms Marvel’s powers though.
I would like to see a Gambit solo film where he meets Rogue. The continuity doesn’t bother me. The two actors are of similar ages and I wouldn’t complain if they brought in Taylor as Gambit again and ignored his age in Wolverine.

Brodie_Bruce says:

@Zipper Stevens

HELL Yes !
they need sum Freak’in Sentinels in these movies .
the Short Lived Decapetation scene from the Danger Room in X3, was a MAJOR FAIL.
i say X4 with an Aged Gambit portraid by that dude from LOST, and For the Love of THANOS they need to Introduce Scarlett Witch &/or psylock.
and not the crappy transparent psylock from X3.
Please Singer fix what Ratner FuXeD up.
do it for X-fans everywhere.

sowhat says:

dannyboy said: “That’s about as ridiculous as a non-Russian Colossus……………..”

lol dannyboy…not to mention a Non African Storm…or rather one that started off African and then somehow just decided to not be that

Movie continuity is just another VERSION of the X-Men, definitive in no way.
It sucks that the masses will get their opinions of the characters from these. We know Rogue is a bad ass. We know Gambit should be the average age of an X-Man…but not if you read Ultimate X-Men…so it’s just another version

…What they really need to do is create STORY and not reasons to throw in more characters. Gambit was SOOOO forced into Wolverine just to have him on screen and the only result is that he can’t be used properly for an actual X-Men movie.

Phil G says:

I think this HAS to be a non-issue. There’s no way Rogue can be in a “prequel.” Not without some terrible writing.
