In recent months, Screen Rant reported on some updates for the new Spawn feature film in development. One report was on the topic of who would be in the film and that its creator, Todd McFarlane, wants Leonardo DiCaprio to star as the title character. More recently, we found out that McFarlane is currently writing the screenplay as a creepy, scary, adult-themed take on the character’s story, which would act as a standalone movie.
However, that’s not the only new format we’ll be seeing Spawn in – For those of you who watched the animated Spawn series on HBO back in the day, while it aired its three seasons from 1997 to 1999, you’ll be excited for this news…

Todd McFarlane, the mastermind behind Spawn, tweeted the following on Thursday:
“For those that’ve asked, the SPAWN ANIMATED show will be back in Hollywood’s face in 2010. Legal issues delayed it past few years”
So, a full decade after the animated adaptation ran its course, it is finally returning to television. There’s no word yet on whether or not this is a continuation of the older series or a reboot but I figure after 10 years they’ll just start fresh – they’ll need to if they want to gain a new audience.
The series that aired in the late nineties featured Keith David as the voice of Spawn. I wonder if they’ll bring him and the others back for the new series…

The spawn movie sucked but the HBO animated series was decent. It was dark and violent and hbo usually puts out good shows.
The Spawn movie was awful, never saw the TV series,
I do hope they get Keith David to do the voice of ‘Spawn’ again. The HBO animated series was great. I hope the updated version is even better

I enjoyed the Spawn film, and kind of enjoyed the show.
Oh so Mcfarlane tweeted this, huh. Well he has given us no reason to doubt his intentions thus far so it must be true!

Ah, that’s right…really the best I can do is create an article that includes the poll and have that be the discussion place. No easy way to add a link to a poll and make it quick to update.

Way back when they were first trying to put this new series together, the spawn.com site said they were getting Keith David back as Spawn and getting Mark Hamill and Jon Polito for Twitch and Sam, respectfully. I wonder if that’s still doing down or not.
As for the original animated series, it was masterful. The live action movie, however, was a total farce. I still can’t believe Alan McElroy wrote both the show and the film.

Spawn was a black guy in the first movie and i haven’t heard anything about a second movie.

It’s a shock to me as well that Alan McElroy wrote both the show and the film. The show was 1000 times better and it goes to show you that acting and directing mean more than we think.
The Spawn movie wasn’t bad at all. It might have veered from the comis, but those are comics, this was a film. Taken as it’s own version of the story, the movie was actually quite good. I loved the look of spawn as more of a super hero version of spawn and John Leguisamo was great as the antagonist. I loved the way they showed the suit and cape effects. The animated series was very good too. I loved them both and watch either anytime I get the chance, can’t wait for a new one of each. Has anything been said about where the new series would be? HBO again or elsewhere?
i would be pissed if they dont continue from the original series, the animated series left us all in a cliff hanger at the end of the third season. i am a die-hard spawn fan, and im sure if they change it, alot of spawn fans that loved the original series will be angered too.
