In the 7th season of ABC’s Saturday Movie of the Week, the station saw ratings drop below 2.5 million for the first time in history. Surprisingly, this happened while airing a Harry Potter movie.
Now, according to Cinema Blend, ABC has announced they will air Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy on April 10, 2010. Last time it aired on ABC was January 21, 2009 and it garnered a measly 2.86 million viewers.
But forget the stats, Anchorman is awesome. For those of you wondering what I’m even talking about: the film centers around Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), San Diego’s cocky, misogynist news anchor in the 1970s, who has quite the run-in with his new female co-anchor, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate). Ron’s friends and fellow newsmen round out the story, including the inept Brick Tamland (Steve Carrell), the confused Champ Kind (David Koechner), and the Sex Panther-wearing Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd).
I have yet to see Anchorman on broadcast television, so I’m interested to see how edited-down it is. I doubt it would matter – as long as we still get Brick’s trident throw. And now, The Best of Brick Tamland:
Remind me to organize a pants party and order three fingers of Glenlivet, with a little bit of pepper, and some cheese before 8:00 pm EST on April 10th, when Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy stumbles its wonderful, drunken self onto ABC.
