‘Anchorman 2′ Trailers Tease the Return of Ron Burgundy’s News Team [Updated]

UPDATE: Scroll Down for a Second Anchorman 2 Trailer!

Those who spent their weekend checking out Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest comedy vehicle, The Dictator (read our review) should have gotten a glimpse at the official teaser trailer for Anchorman 2 (a.k.a. Anchorman: The Legend Continues) – which does not even have a finished script, as of yet.

Everyone can now check out the domestic teaser for the Anchorman sequel online. Needless to say, there’s not a whole lot to talk about here, other than how it’s fun to see the original film’s main cast (Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner) back playing their respective Anchorman personas – and spouting lots of absurd innuendo, to boot.

Here is what Anchorman co-writer/director Adam McKay previously had to offer, with regards to when the sequel will take place:

“It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79. All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

Anchorman 2 is also expected to see Christina Applegate return as crusading anchorwoman Veronica Corningstone (in some capacity). Additionally, the sequel should boast many a celebrity cameo, similar to its predecessor – which features brief, yet memorable appearances by the likes of Jack Black, Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Danny Trejo, among others.

As is the case with any followup to a comedy that earns a cult following: there’s good reason to wonder whether The Legend Continues can replicate the success of its predecessor – much less, feature anywhere near an equal number of quotable jokes and one-liners. Still, out of all the belated comedy sequels that look to become a reality in the future – including, Dumb and Dumber 2 and Beetlejuice 2Anchorman 2 stands out as the contestant with the best shot at actually being pretty good (At least, for the time being.)

Anchorman: The Legend Continues is tentatively slated to reach theaters by 2013.

  1. Whammy!!!! Get ready all you smelly pirate hookers!!!

  2. As much as I am really looking forward to this I can’t help but think that there’s just no way this can be a patch on the original.

Anchorman was on again last night on UK tv. It just get’s better each time I see it.

  3. Just hope its half as good as the first one and we are still in for a cracker.
“I dont know what were shouting for”

    • “I heard their period attracts bears!”

  4. It’s different from the trailer that played with The Dictator. The one in theaters has no opening narration and all the takes are different, like they improvized a bunch of lines and just picked their favorites.

  5. And now it’s my turn to talk :D man I love Brick I really hope this movie lives up to the original

  6. I cant wait for this lol “and this time I’m on top. *sips cup* umm.”

  7. Milk was a bad choice

  8. The first one was a non funny dud, now another Will Ferrell bomb ? The guy is the most overrated unfunny actor ever.

    • I have to agree with you. So many people kept saying “You have to see this film, its hilarious”

I watched it, may have smiled once or twice but never managed a laugh.

    • Dribble a bit of sweet hot mercy on me!!!! You must have the personality of a baked potatoe, no salt or butter, if you thought that anchorman was a non funny dud!!

  9. Stupid freestyle humour is what makes the bog standard day to day drama that little bit FUN. Long live the stupid movie (bill and ted 3 anybody)

  10. I for one am excited for the sequel. Sure, it could be a dud, but with Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and Will Ferrell, I really think it has a good chance at being awesome.

    • “Stay classy San Diego”
I have to agree Paul Rudd is great, David Koechner is awsome and Steve Carrel is HILARIOUS as Brick- “Where did you get those cloths the Toilet Store” :-)

  11. Get ready to ride the Palomino stallion ;)

  12. Stale. Tired. Schtick. This lump looks like its gonna play like all the Carell/Ferell laff–riots of the last 5 years- pre-packaged ” get ‘em saying it around their office cubicles” lines, awkward pause postmod tropes from Carell, hammy dumb-dude bits and 70s costumes on Ferell… c’mon guys.. evolve the schtick? a little? If you’re “falling over from the laughing” at this flabby vat full of NL and Comedy Central wannabe gags, by all means jump in.

    • So you do or don’t like this movie???

  13. I’m in a glass case of emotion!!

  14. it’s fun to see the original film’s main cast (Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd>.

  15. Will Ferell is one of the best comic actors there is. I for one can’t wait to see the sequel! Newsmen assemble!!
