It’s been a good nine years since last we saw Ron “I’m Kind of a Big Deal” Burgandy (Will Ferrell) on the big screen in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy. Will Ferrell, of course, has had plenty of box office successes in the time since – e.g., Talladega Nights and Megamind - but nothing that has really surpassed Anchorman in terms of pop cultural recognition. Maybe that’s why he’s making Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

The sequel, co-written and directed by Adam McKay, sees the return of Burgandy’s team – Bryan (Paul Rudd), Brick (Steve Carell), and Champ (David Koechner) – to the news after years of being off the air, this time in the always hilarious 1980s. Cue the Journey music.

Unsurprisingly, the trailer is less about showcasing the plot of the film and more about showcasing the “Ron Burgandy is such an oblivious, arrogant jerk!” jokes – which is fair, considering that’s what the people are paying for.

Still, there appear to be a few key details worth noting:

  • Ron’s dating again, which is fodder for a bunch of racial insensitivity jokes.
  • James Marsden seems to be playing Ron’s younger, more handsome anchor rival.
  • Christina Applegate makes a brief appearance as Veronica Corningstone, the mother of Ron’s son (is a custody battle in the cards?).
  • Kristen Wiig plays Brick’s new love interest. She’s basically Brick but in girl form.
  • And most importantly: Baxter the dog is back.

Suffice it to say, those who enjoyed the first Anchorman are probably going to love the new trailer. And those who didn’t – well, there’s probably not much here that’s going to change your mind.

In addition to the aforementioned cast and crew, Anchorman 2 is being produced by Judd Appatow and will co-star Chris Parnell, Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Meagan Good, Dylan Baker, Greg Kinnear, and Fred Armisen. There will also be appearances by Kanye West, Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, Drake, Sacha Baron Cohen, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, John C. Reilly, Nicole Kidman, and Jim Carrey.

  1. Can’t wait for this one! It would be wonderful if it could live up to the original, doubt it will though. Belated sequels usually don’t.

    • I didn’t think I would like this, but at the risk of offending the PC police, the scene at the dinner table had me laughing. It has potential.

      • I laughed so hard that my nose started to hurt…I really don’t know how it happened, but it did lol

    • Should be good, just hope they dont get sequelitis and simply repeat the best bits from the first one. This trailer had me laughing. Yusss Baxter the bear whisperer is back.. And must be the oldest dog in existense by now.. Though he is a fury little budha haha

  2. News team assemble.

  3. I’m not a hater at all under normal circumstances but this didn’t look that great to me. The racial themed humour felt pretty tired and just made me feel a bit awkward to be honest. Not that I’m easily offended or anything or overly P.C, just seemed like a weird thing to put out in the first full trailer. Hopefully it’ll be great. Step brothers kicks anchorman to death in my opinion if we’re talking about Adam McKay movies :)

    • Mark the racial jokes are fitting because of the time period. It’s perfect.

    • I love Anchorman and really didn’t like Step Brothers. It’s just depends on the kind of humor you are into.

  4. Burgundy-er… Excerlent.

  5. Fantastic. Bring on the 80s. Looking forward to Jim Carreys Cameo. Will and Adam writing a Jim Carrey line for a film? Dreams do come true.

    Where’s Dorthy Mantooth?!

    • She was taken out for a nice seafood dinner and never called again!

      Can’t wait for this!!

      • I hope we don’t physically see you on screen Dr.

    • Dorothy Mantooth is a SAINT!

This should be good. I remember laughing so hard I cried during the first Anchorman when Ron was in the glass case of emotion, “Let me tell you something… AAAHHHRRGHH!!”

  6. Were they spoofing iron man with them gold texts and fonts?…and the “2″ behind the anchorman?…otherwise, looks a good flick! I love the gang.

  7. They were shooting here in Atlanta, Ga, I was trying my best to find out where. I can’t wait for this movie!

  8. I cannot wait for this, it’s been a long time coming and it seems to potentially live up to expectations

  9. Thank God Baxter is back! No Baxter no me! Sad that Applegate is only making a cameo. Their fighting and romance in the original helped make the movie well besides Baxter stealing the show. Maybe if they go to a 3rd film….

  10. not funny at all

  11. Not funny at all.

    • I’m assuming this is heavy sarcasm… or you sir, need to find your funny bone.

  12. Not a fan of Kristen Wiig playing a female Brick. Not a fan at all.

  13. Looks like the only actually funny movie since the first one.

  14. Oh wait that’s my hand. Cannot wait!!!

  15. I love lamp…
