Among Us developer Innersloth got candid about its process while simultaneously announcing new content that will be coming soon. In particular, the developer addressed why it takes so long for updates to be implemented to the game as well as Innersloth's recent history after Among Us' surge of success.

The game was originally published back in 2018, but it did not become popular until 2020. The game provided a unique and much needed form of social interaction while people were quarantined during the COVID-19 pandemic and the player base only grew when Among Us got traction on Twitch. Yet despite the massive success, updates for the indie game have been slow to come out and now Innersloth has shed some light on the situation.

Innersloth explains in a dev log how it took two months to reprioritize the company's entire structure after the game's surge in popularity. Originally the team behind Among Us was three people strong and has since only grown to four. Innersloth remains reluctant to hire more help out of a fear that doing so might actually slow down the process instead of speeding it up. There was also more behind the scenes work that the post did not go into detail on, but Innersloth did thank its players for their patience.

This explanation makes a lot of logistical sense, especially when it seems like Innersloth moved on from Among Us shortly after its initial release back in 2018. Any studio, no matter the size, would likely have to reorganize its priorities if one of its games suddenly became as big as Among Us. That amount of work likely becomes much more taxing when it is only divided amongst four people and not a massive studio with hundreds of employees.

It is understandable why Innersloth is hesitant to bring in more developers despite the success of Among Us. The company describes itself as a group of friends working together to make indie games and its easy to see how so much success from one title could get in the way of that original purpose. It also makes sense that those same friends are reluctant to let their golden child into some outsider's hands. Innersloth wants to make the game it envisions and the process it has used so far has produced stellar results. Fans should trust the process Innersloth has created for itself, as it will likely lead to more of the Among Us that they love.
