‘American Horror Story: Coven’ Full Opening Titles & More TV Spots

Published 11 months ago by

Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy’s spooky series American Horror Story will return to FX in early October, so that it can be properly settled in by the time Halloween rolls around, and having covered ghosts and maniacs the show is now moving on a story all about witches. The returning cast includes Jessica Lange, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe, and is rounded out by newcomers like Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett.

FX has so far been doing an excellent job of promoting the show with a series of simple but effective TV spots, featuring brief clips of very creepy imagery that capture the tone of the show without giving away much of its plot. The first trailer that shows actual clips was released recently, and it revealed that Taissa Farmiga will be playing a teenager who discovers that she is a witch, in a time when witches are being mysteriously hunted down and killed, and is sent to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. It’s like people just can’t resist sticking a euphemism in the names of schools for kids with superpowers (looking at you, Xavier).

American Horror Story has had some entertaining title sequences for both of the seasons that have gone before, and it looks like American Horror Story: Coven will be no exception. Featuring the usual blend of weird clips that look like they’ve been plucked straight from a Nine Inch Nails music video and the show’s theme tune, which is simultaneously painful and fascinating to listen to, these titles will definitely help to get episodes off to a strong start. Hopefully the witches in the show don’t actually wear black Ku Klux Klan robes, though; that’s a guaranteed way to attract unwanted attention.

Having mentioned the creepy TV spots for American Horror Story: Coven, it would be remiss of us not to include the latest batch. Featuring an eerie version of “House of the Rising Sun” by Lauren O’Connell and clips of Voodoo priestess Marie Laveau (Bassett), a teen witch having a bad hair day and some very nice high-heeled boots, these TV spots should be more than enough to get you in the mood for the witching hour.

These teasers are pretty cool, but without some more footage from the actual show it’s difficult to get an idea of whether or not this season will be a winner. Quite a few people felt that American Horror Story‘s second season was a little weak compared to the first. It undoubtedly had a great cast, but can Falchuk and Murphy pull off a compelling tale of witchcraft vs. voodoo, or will this high school for witches be just like McKinley High?

Let us know in the comments if you’ve been enjoying the creepy teasers for American Horror Story: Coven, or if you would have preferred getting to see actual clips from the show rather than random creepy images.

  1. I really really like this series! I wait all year to see whats next! The writting is fantastic and the cast of actors couldnt be better! Jessica Lange has been a long time favorite of mine and the choices of addition cast perfect. They fit well! Ionly today starting posting my feelings on different shows! Maybe no one reads these , however its fun to post my comment! Lol! Great series keep up the good work! You all should have a face book page as well!

  2. I just seen the question being asked sorry! I have been enjoying the creepy teasers…LOL! Also.I didnt think last season was weak! I enjoyed it very much! I am no tv critic however I thought the approach with a completly different story line was genious! The possibilities that, that allows are endless! Great job on both of these!

    • Screen Rant do have a Facebook page. Unless you’re asking Hannah personally, which would be a little creepy. Maybe.

Could be just me she has a restraining order against. I heard rumblings that Sandy was looking to do the same. He’s hard to please though. Ahem.

Yeah, looking forward to the show but I hope it’s more “season 2″ writing and not “season 1″. Shame they left some plot threads unexplored though last season.
