It looks like the patients aren’t the only insane thing about American Horror Story: Asylum: season 2 of the hit FX thriller has pulled in record-breaking ratings for the series. The season 2 premiere, which aired last Wednesday at 10pm, blasted last year’s ratings with a total of 3.85 million viewers.
The first chapter of American Horror Story: Asylum - titled ‘Welcome to Briarcliff’ -scared up the number 2 programming spot in Adults 18-34 demo – just behind CBS’ long-standing crime series CSI, but beating out ABC’s freshman drama Nashville (staring former AHS actress Connie Britton); the show also put the fear in NBC’s new fireman drama Chicago Fire. Asylum’s premiere tallies also bested any episode of the original American Horror Story saga by gains of 20-40 percent. [MILD SPOILERS FOLLOW]
American Horror Story: Asylum creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk may have thrown fans for a loop with their otherworldly plot twist - however, the new installment of the anthology did open to mostly positive reviews, with returning actress Jessica Lange being highly-praised for her portrayal of the insidious nun, Sister Jude. In a recent Twitter Q & A, Murphy (somewhat) answered some lucky fan’s questions regarding the new season – including the infamous alien twist.
When asked if in fact the aliens were real or a figment of one of the Briarcliff Manor’s residents, Murphy coyly replied; "It could be or not. But the truth is scary and you don't find out the answer for awhile." Murphy was equally secretive when asked about what role Run Lola Run actress Franka Potente (who is affectionately called "Frank") will be taking on this season. Without giving too much away, Murphy responded by saying, "Frank debuts in episode 4. She is a lady with a big secret and great scenes with Dr. Arden."
‘American Horror Story’s’ alien abduction
One of the most notable questions Murphy answered (albeit briefly) was concerning Adam Levine - who many of us saw get dismembered in the debut episode. When asked if the Maroon 5 frontman will bounce back from his horrible mauling and will return for more episode of AHS: Asylum – Murphy gave is shortest answer of the Q&A session by simply saying "Yes. For several episodes."
Whether or not American Horror Story: Asylum can maintain its ratings high (even with the alien thing) remains to be seen - but loyal Murphy fans will simply have to trust that the enigmatic writer will provided the same twisted storylines that kept people coming back for more in season 1.
