Starz debuts a new American Gods promo focused on the goddess of love, Bilquis (Yetide Badaki). The series hits the small screen later this month, and fans are excited to see how the show will adapt Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name, and what kind of changes will be made. Several of the main characters appear faithfully adapted from the trailers and posters that have already been released - especially Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) with his signature coin in his hand.

The trailers for American Gods have also given fans a peek at some of the Gods that will be appearing in the series, including Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane), Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) and Czernobog (Peter Stormare), and Easter (Kristin Chenoweth). There has even been a brief glimpse of Bilquis, a goddess who has only a small part in the book, but who seems like she may have a much bigger one in the series. Now, a new teaser for the show introduces this goddess of love in a little more detail.

The video includes less than 20 seconds of footage from the show, but still manages to recreate one of Bilquis's biggest scenes from the book. It begins with a title card reading, "Presenting Bilquis, Goddess of Love," in the same flickering neon as the show's title, before showing Bilquis sitting up in a red bed, with candles behind her and a sheet over her. Her voice is heard saying, "Worship me, pray to me like I'm your God, your Goddess."

American Gods - Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Goddess of Love

In the book, Bilquis is an Old God, the Queen of Sheba, who needs to be worshipped through sex. She only appears in a couple of scenes in the novel, one of which is similar to the one glimpsed in this promo. The words "worship me" are a key part of that scene, which suggests that we are going to see a version of it on the screen. (Only a version, however, as the full scene involves some physically impossible feats that would be incredibly difficult to portray - literally!) Beyond this, Bilquis only appears once more, in a scene that sets up the conflict between the New and Old Gods.

It is likely that fans will be seeing far more of Bilquis in the show than they did in the book, especially as she will reportedly be appearing in all eight episodes of the series. She has also been featured in the American Gods character posters, as well as the trailers, which points to a major role in this adaptation. There is no way to know exactly how her role will be expanded, however, as the clips that have been revealed so far match her big scene from the book, and don't tell us anything new.
