LOL, this used to be my favorite show on tv when I was a kid

After Dodgeball came out I figured they would make a movie out American Gladiators. I was thinking it would be a comedy though.

If you ever watch the older episodes on ESPN Classic every other word out of the announcers/contestants/gladiators mouths is a sexual enuendo, examples – Gemini cant resist his blow, good blow. Nitro got double teamed. That ball rimmed out. He’s gonna come hard every time.

I think it has the potential to be a real movie if written correctly, but I think it could be so much better as a comedy that actually takes place in the 80’s. The combination of steroids, mullets, women that look like men, spandex, knee pads, and 80’s music all taking place at Universal Studios Hollywood (they always made a big deal out of that for some reason); it is too perfect.

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

I thought there was already an American Gladiator movie called Running Man? :-)

I thought April 1st was last month?? Who in their right minds would spend $10 to watch that cr*p??

All I recall is:

1) I had a crush on Diamond.

2) The dude who was code named “Saber” showed up as Jax in the lame Mortal Combat sequel.

3) Two Scoops, the most popular contestant ever.

…and Hot Shots Part Duex!

I was thinking comedy as well. Make it a buddy comedy with Will Ferrel and Seth Rogen set in the early 90’s. It would fun to watch them as contestants but even funnier to hear their gladiator names and watch them get their butts kicked in the contests.

SK-47 says:

@John, they should go the Running Man route and make this a HARD-R, except they don’t have the larger-than-life Arnold to star, or even the backdrop of a totalitarian government regime with the politics surrounding the show and the brainwash of civilians from corporations.

Or maybe they can have that in here as well. I see Channing Tatum starring in this one and making the same old quotes:
“Oh, I love watching American Gladiators as a kid! It was my favorite show…I think we have a good movie here, there is a lot of people working hard making this good. Amazing stunts, big action, its going to be great! It’s going to be amazing! Will Smith should definately play Captain America”…oops, wrong quote.
