Ricky Martin is to join forces with Ryan Murphy once more by appearing in his anthology show, American Crime Story. Murphy serves as showrunner for the FX show, which garnered critical acclaim with its first season, The People v. O.J. Simpson. FX has ordered three more seasons, all of which will focus on a different true crime event. The second season will be titled American Crime Story: Katrina, telling the aftermath of the hurricane that devastated New Orleans in 2005. In particular, the season will focus on the actions of the government and State in dealing with the devastation. Season four, which is still some way off, will retell the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton over his affair with intern Monica Lewinsky.

Season three is titled American Crime Story: Versace, and will be based on the events documented in the book by Maureen Orth, 'Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History.' The season will retell the events leading up to and immediately after the murder of fashion icon, Gianni Versace, on the steps of his Malibu home in 1997. In particular, the season will focus on the large-scale manhunt for his killer, Andrew Cunanan, who eventually took his own life a week after the murder, just as the police were closing in on him.

Previous casting announced includes Edgar Ramirez (Girl on the Train) as Versace, Penelope Cruz as his sister, Donatella, and Darren Criss (Glee) as killer Cunanan. Deadline is now reporting that Ricky Martin will be joining the cast roster as Versace's long time partner, Antonio D’Amico. This is not the first time for Martin working under Murphy's guidance; he previously guest starred in an episode of Glee, though this role will no doubt be a very different affair.

D'Amico and Versace's relationship lasted for fifteen years, until his death, with D'Amico now working as a fashion designer in his own right. Since he is still living, it is possible that he may offer some further details on their time together as the script is developed. For Martin, while acting is not his usual line of work, he actually does have a fair number of roles to his name (including turns in Les Miserables and Evita), so he shouldn't be out of his depth.

Filming on American Crime Story: Versace, is set to this month, with the season going to air in late 2018. It will actually film before Katrina, because that script is still in develpoment. As a result, Katrina's air date has been pushed back to early 2018 instead of this year, meaning American Crime Story seasons two and three will arrive within six months of each other. Season 4 is expected in 2019.
