american chopper sr vs jr season 3 premiere American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior Season 3 Premiere Review & Discussion

Following-up on the long-awaited build-off between Senior and Junior, the American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior season 3 presents a potential new direction for the rival bike-builders, as well as their aging series.

While the familiar sentiment of Senior and Junior’s broken relationship remains, there appears to be more of an earnest attempt from both sides to better explain the situation from their respective position, as well as a more defined series divide between the actual bike building and family drama.

As each Teutul reflected upon what had transpired during the much talked about American Chopper: The Build-Off, there wasn’t so much of a regret for what had occurred, but more of an explanation as to why it occurred – and why their relationship still isn’t repaired.

Even though this aspect could certainly be looked at as “more of the same” – especially considering the subject matter – there is a sense that both Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. (with the help of the producers) are attempting to provide the context needed to not only allow the series to evolve itself past their strenuous relationship, but to also allow each company (Orange County Choppers and Paul Jr. Designs) to follow in the same path.

Admittedly, these elements are better represented in the premiere through Paul Jr. and Paul Jr. Designs, but there’s more than enough honest sentimentality presented through Paul Sr.’s veil of emotional contradictions to believe that there could soon be an end in sight for the father-son feud.

And while there are still more than enough venomous conversations from either side to help fuel the fire of fans wanting the series title of “vs” to remain true, it doesn’t feel – for whatever reason – as emotionally charged as it once was.

With Orange County Choppers and Paul Jr. Designs presenting lighter bike builds than the typical episode would include (credited to the premiere filming during the holiday season), there isn’t a true sense of the direction that this season will take for the subsequent episodes. But, for what it’s worth, the producers should be credited for making use of the allotted time to supplement the premiere with storylines that don’t include the feuding family.

Of course, for those looking to have gripes with Discovery’s long running bike building series, American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior does present two opportunities to complain. This first, of course, involves Donald Trump.

With Paul Sr. joining the cast of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice season 12, the ability to bring a synergy to American Chopper and Celebrity Apprentice was expected to occur. And while Donald Trump may have watched several episodes of the series in the past, it’s clear that he was unfamiliar with the Senior and Junior’s situation as it currently stands.

Providing Senior with the advice of “Don’t leave him anything; not even 10 cents,” it’s clear to anyone that watches the series that this is the last thing the Teutul patriarch needs to hear – something that even fans of Senior can agree with. Thankfully, these sentiments were encapsulated within several scenes, with no further conversations about it occurring.

Secondly, and perhaps (most) unfortunately, the grievances that will arise as a result of the season 3 premiere’s handling of Senior’s mother and her passing. While it’s clear that both Senior and Junior chose to handle the passing more off-camera than on, the producers could have made more of an attempt to convey the loss that occurred – especially for fans that have watched the show since American Chopper: The Series.

While Senior’s mother wasn’t a large part in the series, she did elicit a certain side from the Teutuls that is different what the viewers see while they’re in the confines of their garage. When it comes to the loss of a family member, it’s hard to complain about the way each member chooses to handle it – especially when their lives are part of a television series.

Overall, the American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior season 3 premiere can be considered a disjointed amalgamation of previous storylines, already started bike builds and an unclear approach to the future.

And while this would most certainly be a negative for any other television series, American Chopper is a series that relies heavily on its fan – and for a fan watching this premiere, there shouldn’t be any problem understanding what’s being presented.

…but let’s just hope the formatting cleans itself up with the subsequent episodes (which it most likely will).

  1. eh, I stopped watching them a LONG time ago. Somewhere around the I, Robot bike I think. I don’t really care about their little drama-fest and while I appreciate the stunning bikes BOTH men produce, I’ll look at the pics online and avoid the carrot-dangling interviews and hubris of both those idiots. They should just give Mikey a series. He’s the more interesting and funny one. But, yeah, that whole series has arthritis in its bones now…

  2. I have watched to show almost from the start. Senior and Juniors attacks is what made the show real. But i have looked back and see both sides. Senior hated it when Junior had cups all over the place and tools lying around that was not being used. Also he couldn’t find Junior ,when he should have been building. I watch the show now and see no cups or tools lying around in Juniors shop.Times changed and customers wanted a layout of the bikes they was paying high prices for. Juniors shop, not gone that much and finally takes on responsibility for his bikes. This is a good show, but in reality, who was right.? Juniors designs are good and spends so much on the little things. Noone is showing how much they are making. A shop is about getting the bikes built at a profit. Both sides need to stop and see that this was good to split. Senior, Junior see his mistakes and has learned from it. Move on.

  3. I laughed out loud when I heard Donald Trump ask for a gold bike, “But not too much gold, it shouldn’t be gaudy.” Ha. Anyone who’s seen the décor of his penthouse apartment in New York on the Apprentice knows this guy likes gold more than the most gold crazed Bond villain. Overall the episode was fun. Definitely disjointed and probably impossible to follow for anyone new to the series, but I think there are good things ahead for the season.

  4. Was sad to hear about Grandma’s passing. Always enjoyed seeing her. Not sure where they’re heading either but after seeing a commercial this morning for next week’s show where Sr is saying something about Paulie perhaps not showing up for grandma’s passing or not reaching to him I’m disappointed that Paul Sr said this on camera. He could have discussed this later with his wife when cameras were gone. Paul Jr. told him in Vegas he wanted him to stop speaking negatively about his family on TV. I could see why Sr would be disappointed if this is true and I hope Paul Jr was able to pay his respects privately in some way but Sr. didn’t go to Paulie’s wedding and wore a suit to Jason’s?
What is sad is that Paul Sr has three grandchildren who will be seeing this stuff for years to come and I’m not sure if they have an opportunity to even know their Grandpa. It’s all sad. I think they all have great personalities (even Sr when he’s being good)and so much talent there with the American Dream achieved and everyone is miserable. Would love to see them continue to show how Paulie’s business expands– he is so very talented and glad to see he’s finally his own person but tired of the OCC scene.

  5. IT’S FUNNY HOW SENIOR CRIED FOR WEEKS OVER HIS DOG, BUT DIDN’T SHED A TEAR OVER HIS MOTHER PASSING. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?

    • Youre absolutely freaking right!

    • I fell the same , Just heard mom pased ? and whats up with that of the dogs came before his kids ?? if i heard correct jr made the logo whene sr only hade bassment to build from : And Sr u r ther daddy why not step up to the plate , Add Adhd what ever , Jr never puts u down on public tv ? Don’t u think they can see what u say how u still act ? ThE diease is mostly inharted , But just sayin Jr is very talanted he does come from your blood .I would be very proud ( ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS )
God be with all u , Family is it … Some time buisness & in the case wokin togather don’t go togather ? What if tomarrow didn,t come for one of u in this family and sr u were left what then? YOUR CHILDREN ARE NOT HEARTLESS THEY LUV YOU ….. The way you come off acting like it youir way or no way has not gotton you any were has it ???? Sorry to the Tuttle Family of there loss . Sr Be the man you can be . Good Luck .

  6. IT’S FUNNY HOW SENIOR CRIED FOR WEEKS OVER HIS DOG, BUT DIDN’T SHED A TEAR OVER HIS MOTHER PASSING. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?

It is coming to a place where people find watching blowhards blow to be entertaining.

But that happened with “The Apprentice” a long time ago. I’d sooner watch the same episode of Squid Billies a dozen times than pay any attention to these bozos.

    Oops! I just did! Drats!!

    • PAUL SR DONT WORY ABOUT WAT EVERY BODY SAYS I READ YOUR BOOK ‘RIDE OF A LIFETIME GREAT BOOK I WAS WER U WERE AT ONE TIME,ALCOHOL AND DRUGS ROBED ME OF A LOT OF THINGS IN MY LIFE ESP RESP FRM OTHER PEOPLE MY FAMELY FRIENDS EXCT.TILL I GOT SOBER 32 YRS AGO IN A PROGRAM OH U BEEN THER. WOULD LIKE TO MEET U AND RIDE WITH U TO A MEETING UP THERE. YOURS FRIEND TERRY ECENRODE 261 JACOB ST NE NAVARRE,OHIO GOD BLESS U AND YR FAMELY

  7. If senior wasn’t so stuck on himself he might be ok .He did not give jr. any credit at all for the bikes..Now the real jr. comes through, he sees the bike in his head then builds it ,not like jason wko does the bike on computer then occ builds it. If trump would ever see the shows where senion gives jr. heck for no reason, he would be on jrs side if he was any kind of a man He should talk to jr. and sr. both and get both sides, NOT JUST SR’S SIDE. Senior said he tried to reach out to jr. WHAT A LIE

  8. This show is beyond useless. They’re all a bunch of jerks (except for Mikey)!

    • Actually the real jerk in the show is MIKEY!!!! Lazy bum who was given a lot of chance but didn’t make full use of it! Glad to hear he’s leaving the show!

  9. You only have one dad speak to him ask your self what would jesus do

  10. You know I have watched the show from the beginning and the craziness they would pull together was funny to watch and very enjoyable. But when you have a father that gets mad about a child not doing what he thinks he should do,or be who he thinks he should be and fires him that is one thing. But when you have a father that every chance he gets is being spiteful towards his children and putting them down and saying what they do is not good enough and having a comment on everything he hears through the grapevine just to put his children down is utterly rediculous and very immature. No wonder why his children do not want anything to do with him, that is not a father, that is an enemy. Paul Sr. needs to take the examples from his children because they are definately more mature than he could ever wish to be by taking the I wish things were not this way and not cutting their father down even though they have a ton of ammunition with how much his mouth is babbling about others. Grow up senior and maybe your children will want to be around you, until then you only have yourself to blame and that is a royal shame.

  11. I just finished watching the episode about Sr mom’s funeral and the way Jr and Mikey treated their father has caused me 2 lose any respect I had left 4 them. I hope that weighs on their minds 4 years. Time 2 grow up.

    • I am sorry but i really can’t say why they didn’t come to grand mother passing , I will not judge them , If i were to have gone it would have been respect to granma :, Did sr (daddy ) call his sons & ask them do u no r u or will u come be as a family ? It’s sad . I believe Sr needs to step up & be a GroWn a**, Man, (Father) as mikey & Jr still to this day call him no matter what.. Just saying i would think Sr is a part of the no show & shame on all them for this ~ It’s time to get it togather Sr said he needs to do somethin 2/25/2012, So SR THESE R YOUR CHILDERN EITHER U R GONNA FIX THIS OUR LET EM GO ? ARE U? CAN U BE A MAN A DADDY ? I FEEL U HOLD THE CARD THAT CAN CHANGE ALL THIS … AND MAYBE FAMILY COUNCLING & ANGERMANAGMENT MIGHT BE WHAT U MAY CK INTO .NO ONE WANTS TO BE TREATED THE WAY U HAVE TREATED THOSE BOYS ,WORDS HURT AS BAD AS GETTIG HIT SOMETIME ,WISH U THE BEST: oldindian64,,,,

  12. I really disappointed that Paulie and Mikey did not reach out to there dad. I think they were in the wrong big time. Hell even Vinnie reached out to senior and he isn’t family and on good terms with OCC and senior.

  13. too bad..But dont blame the kids for their attitude… The “real” love is gone- Mikey doesnt trust dad yet and Jr says whatever..After Sr says Paul Jr and not “son” belittles him EVERYTIME to people, attends coworkers wedding (with a suit) but not FAMILY!!. My dad was more interested in himself than family and I had no remorse/regret for him…DONOT blame his kids

  14. I really love all of these people and I do hope they can work out family ussues .Please I pray to God that it doesn’t take senoir death for a wake up call get family consuling.Good luck

  15. People are forgetting Paul Sr said he showed up LATE, saw only Mikey at the viewing. The TV crew did not show any of it. Paul Jr could have been there EARLIER. Paul Sr. still doing ME!! ME!!ME!! He is AVOIDING the main issue. He needs to take 2 steps forward and no steps back. He is refusing to say “I’M SORRY”. Seems he had some issues growing with his dad. It seems that’s how it’s done.
Mrs Paul Sr. is SO CALM through the whole Paul Sr DRAMA. Holding Paul Sr’s hand……THERE, THERE, THERE. Good for her for being there.

  16. Interesting dynamics regarding the passing of Sr’s mother. The boys did go to the viewing but did not speak with sr. They were grieving also. My advice to the teutuls is to not waste your precious time on earth slinging hurtful and damaging words at each other. Grow up and let bygones be bygones. I don’t think you all will ever be friends but don’t be enemies.

  17. Senior is the man,
Paul Jr would be a nowhere man without his father …..
And his fother is the bad guy????? Please !!!!!!!
    Thank you for your time.

  18. Hey i’m watching the show an before the commercial they said “it all ends where it started with the build” so that got me thinking what better way to bury the hatchet than have senior build a bike for Jr an Jr build a bike for senior. I think they would both cherish those bike’s more than any one they ever built owned or saw. I’m also a Jr, David William Gibbs jr. but me an my father have a very similar relationship as theirs so do a bike that shows all the good that makeshift special 2 house some where in it a buried hatchet I lost my brother at the age of 8 an he was 7. Lives are way to short an precious. Come on you both have life the balls don’t waist what $ can’t buy. Enough of the he said she said b******* an finger pointing. sincerely from somebody who probably shouldn’t care

  19. What a great idea. Thats the most positive comment off all.

  20. The only thing i’m gonna say is Jesse James builds bikes you can ride,
And i agree pretty much with his opinion of the kind of bikes the Teutuls build. Someone in an earlier post said Sr. was the man with this also i agree. at least he isn’t a whine ass.

  21. I only watch the Jr part of the show…I am tired of SR badmouthing his kids…and Sr’s designer kid..or brown noser…. sucks…his designs suck…his comments about Jr and Mikey suck…and and when SR said he wished that kid was his son….that was the BIGGEST mistake he could have done…JR has more creativity in his foot than that kid has in his entire being. My fantasy show???? Jr or Mikey go to Sr’s shop and kick that kids ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NUF CED!!!!

  22. If Jr could get Rick to work with him…there would be no SR….everyone else in Sr’s shop sucks….ohhhh and when the DONALD////told Sr to cut his kids out of his will….guess what…who cares??? They don’t need Daddies money…they could care less….OCC was popular because of JRs creativity and eye for design NOT anything his old man did….

  23. I LIKE THE SHOW. I DID NOT LIKE THE WAY SR TALKED WITH JR WHEN THEY WORKED TOGETHER. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM RECONCILE THIER RELATIONSHIP. I BELIEVE THEY COULD BUILD A STRONGER RELATIONSHIP. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM CONTINUE THE SHOW.
I HAVE A PAUL JR SHIRT AND I LIKE THE GLASSES ALOT.

  24. Get it together, guys. My nephews (your ages) are losing their Dad to cancer any day now. Grow up and enjoy the time you have. You never know when your Dad will go. So over this stupidity.

  25. Iwant yall to be a family. It much need. Life to short to lose love for ur son or father.think of the family stuff not the shoe.i wish iwas apart of that family there s love there .just step up and take it and.give it.i think the word of all yall.yall can make it work.

  26. Mikey get this family back together!!!!they need u dont live.

  27. I change TV channels or mute when Jr or one of the PJD dorks is on, I only watch and listen to Senior. I can’t stand selfish people like Jr and Mikey who took advantage of their employment with their father and how they now are paying him back. Jr and Mikey are low-lifes.
