Surprisingly, Amazon's included an SD card slot on all versions of the Fire 7 — including the 2017 model, the 2019 one, and now the 2022 version. Simply find the SD card tray on the side of the Fire 7, pry it open with your fingers, and insert the microSD card of your choice. Just like that, you've expanded its storage for all of your apps, movies, games, etc.
How Expandable Storage Works On The Fire 7 (2022)
With past versions of the Fire 7, Amazon only supported microSD cards up to 256GB and 512GB. However, with the Fire 7 (2022), the tablet works with microSD cards up to 1TB. You don't have to use a 1TB card with the tablet, but if you need that much space, the Fire 7 (2022) supports it.
While expandable storage is unnecessary on some tablets, most Fire 7 (2022) owners will likely want to use it. Why? The cheapest $59.99 version of the Fire 7 (2022) comes with only 16GB of internal storage. You can upgrade to the $79.99 model for more space, but even then, you only get 32GB of storage. By comparison, Amazon sells 128GB microSD cards for around $15 and 256GB cards for about $30. It'd be great to have more storage built into the Fire 7 (2022) by default, but thanks to the SD card slot Amazon included, it's an easy problem to resolve.
