where the wild things are1 Amazing Trailer For Where The Wild Things Are

Spike Jonze’ newest creation Where The Wild Things Are has been on my movie radar ever since it was announced (in fact, even before that, in a general “looking forward to Jonze’s next movie” sort of way). And the release of some great images and a fantastic promo poster for the film have fueled the fire of  my excitement.

With the still images having given us a feel for the film and a sense of the general plot outline, it’s just about the perfect time for a trailer, so that we can fully and properly get geared up for the release of Where The Wild Things Are later this year.

If this were any other director then I would say the brilliance of the following trailer was just down to some seriously skilled editors (those who trick us into thinking crappy movies look worthwhile to see). But since it’s the wonderfully creative mind of Spike Jonze who’s behind the film, I am willing to say it’s his creativity that makes the trailer look as good as it does (although the inclusion of “Wake Up” by the brilliant band Arcade Fire doesn’t exactly hurt).

Brace yourself for one amazing trailer:

Wow… just wow.

I like to consider myself a pretty good judge of when a film’s trailer looks good because of good editing, and when a film is going to truly measure up to that good trailer. And Where The Wild Things Are definitely looks like a case of the latter. It gives off the sense of awe and wonder that has been hoped for and expected from this film, and if nothing else those monster designs are quite stunning. It’s nice to see physical suits be used instead of the copious amounts of CGI we see nowadays (if I’m mistaken, and that is CGI, they’ve done a fantastic job with it – but I seriously doubt that it is).

Needless to say I’m completely stoked about what Spike Jonze has to offer with his latest sure-to-be-wild creation (or at least the title seems to suggest so). He hasn’t let me down so far, and after seeing the images, poster and now this trailer for the film, it has moved way up on my most anticipated list for 2009.

What are your thoughts on the trailer? Does it look as good to you as it does to me?

Where The Wild Things Are is scheduled for an October 16th, 2009 release.

  1. wow that looks alot better than i thought it would

  2. Man, that brought tears to my eyes and gave em goosebumps. Thank you Spike Jonze! Now I hope the movie lives up to that preview.

  3. I haven’t read the book and I don’t think I need to. This has a really creepy, imaginative, weird, Labyrinth, Neverending Story, feel to it.

  4. Looks good

  5. Wow…..I’m a 27 year old male action junkie and even I think this movie looks great. I might have to read the book now….

  6. I grew up on the book as a wee one decades ago and now I read it to my kids. I am very excited to see this. Looks great!

  7. I raised my kids (21 and 23)on this book, and their dolls have absorbed much love. I can hardly wait to go see this with them – we will all cry – i just know it!

  8. Oh and to those who plan to get the book, just a forewarning that it is a childrens book and really only a dozen sentences long.

  9. Awesome!

  10. tears…
    chills down my spine…
    this looks amazing…

  11. WOW!!..I am blown away!!!..Never before has a trailer made me care about the characters so deeply without seeing any character development on screen but I was cheering for that little guy and his big friend. It’s like I was cheering for them from about the halway point til the end of the trailer..Great job!!!This is what most trailers should do. This is now on my list of must see movies without a doubt..

  12. Very interesting, I think this is a must-see for me :)

  13. Wow. He pulled it off! This was my favorite book as a small child and the monsters look just like the drawings in the book!

  14. That was absolutely beautiful and amazing! And that they used the perfect song to capture the right feel of the film with, I believe it is Arcade Fire is it not? I could be mistaken.
Ross you are right, Spike does have a creative mind for this. I would say, he and Michel Gondry are two directors with creative minds for this generation.

This and Mallick’s Tree Of Life are the ones I am most looking forward to this year!!!

  15. @ VR and No Name Face
    Felt that same feeling…
That story brings back the innocents and joy of being a child with tons of adventures dreams and no real troubles.

  16. I watched that 6 times. There’s a reason I try not to get excited for Spike Jonze or Michel Gondry, because waiting hurts more than you know. Now I can’t watch furry animal or Jim Henson movies until this comes out…Damnit trailer.

  17. I loved this book as a kid and can’t wait for this movie.

  18. @Paterick, I hear ya man!

  19. WOW! I too was almost….nope I AM crying a bit, I’m about to turn 35 and this preview brings me rate back to being a child and sitting in my mom’s lap as she read this to me…wow so excited !!!

  20. Tears to my eyes, this was the first book i read when i learned to read english.

  21. Geez, what are these moist things on my eyes? Cripes, I hope it’s as good as it looks. Can’t wait to take my kids to it.

  22. OMG !! THIS MOVIE IS GONNA BE AWESOME XD!! I CAN’T WAIT TO GO SEE THIS~!! I Grew Up Reading This Book, i t was my favorite bed time story XD !!! as soon as I saw the trailer I was like WHOA!! It’s MAX!! KING OF THE WILD THINGS!! GO WARNER BROTHERS!!!!!
