We recently got a good look at some Amazing Spider-Man footage, which showcased the film's different approach to translating Spidey's web-slinging from the comic book page to the big screen. Today, we can offer a featurette that provides some behind-the-scenes insight on Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) high-flying abilities.

Fans have been aware that Amazing Spider-Man utilizes a combination of practical and CGI Spidey swinging, ever since set photos leaked during production (showing Garfield and his stunt double(s) in action). The comments from seasoned stunt coordinator Andy Armstrong (Thor) about incorporating Parkour elements into Spidey's movement also make sense, based on the maneuvers we've seen the superhero pull in previous ASM trailers.

The latest clip from Amazing Spider-Man highlights Pete's attempts to "do the right thing" and inform the authorities about The Lizard, leading him to clash with Captain George Stacy (Denis Leary) - who's unaware that he's recruited hundreds of officers to hunt down his daughter's boyfriend (that joke writes itself). It once again suggests the everyday sense of humor in the Spidey reboot.

Both the stunt work and comedy style of Amazing Spider-Man set the film apart from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. The latter offered more majestic (if less convincing) CGI Spidey swinging action, while the comedy style would range from relatable (Pete getting tongue-tied around Mary Jane) - to broad and outlandish. ("Emo Peter" dancing down the street - need we say more?)

Overall, Amazing Spider-Man continues to look promising; or, rather, far from the disaster many fans have been anticipating since the project's inception. It's just a shame that ASM will be the middle child, stuck between two superhero "event" blockbusters (Avengers and Dark Knight Rises) with several years' worth of anticipation backing them. Then again, the comparatively lower expectations for the Spidey reboot could prove to be its salvation, as far as box office longevity goes.

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into U.S. theaters (2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D) on July 3rd, 2012.
