Official ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Images: The Cast, Costume & Web Shooters [Updated]

 by

[UPDATE: We've added more Amazing Spider-Man images to our gallery!]

The Amazing Spider-Man is set to be THE big film event (in Hall H at least) at Comic-Con 2011 next week, and in furthering their goal of making a big media impression, Sony has put out a slew of new official images from the film, giving fans (and skeptics) their first real genuine look at how this Spider-Man reboot is coming together.

We’ve recently gotten a description of the Amazing Spider-Man trailer and even a close-up look at the new Spidey costume, but today we’re getting to see the entire Spidey costume (back and front) and the major characters in the film – Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen), Aunt May (Sally Fields) and Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), who is destined to become the savage Lizard.

In addition, we get to see some iconic Spider-Man poses, Peter Parker wall-crawling on a subway car, those oft-debated mechanical web-shooters, and even a little bit of the chemistry between Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker (which looks pretty steamy).

Enough talk: check out the gallery of new Amazing Spider-Man images below, courtesy of EW:

There has been months of fans (and skeptics) dissecting Amazing Spider-Man set photos, behind the scenes videos and the few official promo images the studio has put out, but now getting a look at the actual polished shots of the film, it seems that director Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) has put together an at least competent vision of the Spider-Man mythology (I would personally say a good-looking one, but as always, there will be  those who still have reservations).

The cast has been a particular reason to hold hope for this reboot: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have both proven themselves to be rising stars who have both screen presence and acting ability, and Rhys Ifans is always good in what he’s in (though there is still a lot riding on how they bring the scaled and scary Lizard to life).

For all those who have said that Stone is not right for Gwen Stacy, I think these official images certainly refute those claims; she and Garfield look good posed together as a couple. The shot of an injured Peter Parker having a tender moment with Gwen makes me think that the dramatic scenes in this film will be stronger than the always-slightly-hokey dramatics of Sam Raimi’s Spidey films.

We’ll have a better sense of things once Sony makes its Comic-Con 2011 panel presentation next week, I’m sure. Bookmark our Official Comic-Con 2011 Coverage Page to be the first to hear what the film looks like – maybe even to see a trailer if we’re lucky.

The Amazing Spider-Man will be in theaters on July 3, 2012.

  1. I’m only disappointed with one thing with these pictures which leads me to ask, why, when an outcast protagonist get super human abilities, most often of times go and one up the jock-bully by beating the guy at his own sport? It’s basketball. Parker with powers can jump on top the roof of a 7-11 with no problem so this is child’s play here and I don’t particularly find the idea of watching it fun at all. A super powered Peter Parker playing basketball against the jerk who most likely gave him a few wedgies is like watching a game of one-on-one tag with one of the players having no arms and mentally handicapped.

In the original story Parker entered wrestling because he was poor and needed money. Despite the unfair advantage he had, knowing he couldn’t possibly lose, you weren’t put off by the experience because you could sympathize with his need to win. The only reason I could think to play a game of hoops is to rebuild his frail ego but that would eventually have been fixed going out and doing good deeds for the city as Spider Man so what exactly is the lesson here? Good job Parker, you bullied the bully. High five.

Now don’t get me wrong. Even though I’m out spoken about this particular scene it doesn’t mean I’m in dislike of the entire movie, especially since it’s not even out and nobody has seen it. I have little doubt that the movie will be anything but amazing. I’m also very much interested in seeing The Lizard and how that all plays out in the film as well. However, when it inevitably gets to this particular scene in the theater I’ll take that as my cue to find something to do with my time that’s more constructive like taking a piss.

On a side note: You really have to hand it to Emma Stone. No matter what hair color, how she dresses, how she acts, she always comes out looking hot. Thank Zues for good genetics.

    • What are you talking about him playing basketball to boost his ego???

It is obvious he needs the ball for his costume and he is moving so fast when he takes it the other kid is like “WTF???”.

      • ^ lol

    • It’s quite possible that he is playing basketball before he knows about his full potential. Just like when Goku padded Chi_chi on the back, throwing her across the house, after he had trained so hard and became so incredibly strong but he hadn’t realized just how strong he had gotten.

Don’t look at me like that! All you geeks know what I’m talking about!

      :-D

      • I know what you speak of and I entirely disagree with your statement.

That was clearly spousal abuse on Chi Chi. Goku should rot in jail!

        • Chi Chi was always a drag. She never stopped moaning at poor Goku. He should have got with Bulma instead.

          • She was always yelling at Gohan to do his homework. Goku was always more lenient towards Gohan and didn’t like Chi-Chi yelling at him. He knew was he was doing to her. Sneaky Saiyan

  2. HUGE MISTAKE doing another origin story….. i still can’t believe
sony was stupid enough to reboot this franchise, they should have started the next trilogy with a more mature parker and mary jane….

    • But why is it a huge mistake?

  3. This movie is looking good. Eager to see a trailer or teaser.

  4. *sigh* i suppose there’s no hope at this point of him losing those absolutely RIDICULOUS silver-soled shoes…smh, my God…

    • They are obviously going to digitally remove them in post…….

…..and replace them with some comfy slippers. Or maybe a pair of Crocs! ^-^

  5. Well I guess I must live under a ROCK because I have NO IDEA who Emma Stone is. I have not seen her in any movie and I WILL NOT be seeing This steaming pile of Garbage. The Costume is WRONG, Andrew Garfield is WRONG, Sally Field as Aunt May is WRONG. Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben I am actually ok with, But The actor playing Curt Conners a.k.a. The Lizard is also WRONG for this movie.

  6. Even though I personally still feel like Daniel Radcliffe would be perfect to portray Peter Parker/Spider-Man. :D

After seeing these pictures of Andrew Garfield interacting with other actors in the film.I think he might do alright. ;)

I still believe that the story should take place in the 1960′s though; where the true orgin of Spider-Man began…And why oh why are the designers of the costume still deciding to not make the Spider-Eyes bigger?!

Oh and Goku totally wanted to shut Chi chi up, when he knocked her out the house :P

    • Idk about Daniel Radcliffe as Spidey, not really sure if the world is ready for british spider-man. :\

      • Andrew Garfield is British…
(Don’t get me wrong, I can NOT see Radcliffe as Parker)
I happen to like the casting of Garfield, but no one has seen the movie yet so…

  7. I’m excited for this but at the same time dreading sitting threw his origin again. That’s not just from the previous movies but the comics as well. His origin is prolly the most widely known of all the super hero origins. Did we really need to revisit it?

  8. Me personally I’m not liking the new look of spidey, especially the actor playing him. I dont really care about if the movie portrays more exactly how the spidey should be and whatever. It matters more of how the character story is portrayed. Raimi is an amazing director on bringing out character and I felt he did great with the 3 spider man films, though some places needed work. But dont really care about this new one really.

  9. Cyojahlen, Um Peter Parker is not a redhead. As for Andrew Garfield, i dont love him for the role but he doesnt bother me to the point where i think he cant pull it off, i think hes just a tad bit too goffy looking, what hollywood seems to forget is that although he was a genius and a nerd he was also a rather good looking fella.

  10. @ Nick:
I think it’s an opportunity for the director to be creative. That is, it’s another way for Peter to indulge his powers. I’m sure it won’t be the only irresponsible thing he does. It’s probably just a small part of an over all, more fully developed learning curve. Even so, Rob Donner had Superman playing football in the original Superman flick, didn’t he? Aside from that though, Brian Michael Bendis’s excellent retelling of Spider-man’s origin also has Peter trying his hand at basketball. Not everyone likes Ultimate Spider-man, I know, but as a fan of both the original comics and the Ultimate stuff, I thought the series’ first few issues were a valid interpretation.

@ whoever it was that can’t believe Sony is doing another origins tale:

The original Spider-man was an origins movie, but it didn’t really dissect Spidey’s origins as much as it could have. If Kick Ass, Iron Man, and Batman Begins have shown us anything, it’s that there is a lot more that one can do with an origins tale than what was once conceived. There’s a lot to be mined of Spider-man’s earlier days, and hopefully a more thorough retelling will open the door to a more fully developed and accurate Spider-man.

This movie can do a lot of things that will differentiate it. For one, the fact that it takes place entirely in high school is a game changer. Peter was only in high school for the first 20-30 minutes of the original Spider-man. This time around, he’ll be living with Aunt May the entire time, which opens that dynamic. Believe it or not, it’s developed better and much quicker in the Ultimate books, and it’s enjoyable to read. (It’s one of the things Bendis definately got right) The web shooters will have an impact as well. Iron Man showed us how fun it could be to watch a future superhero genius at work in the lab. I look forward to see Peter geeking out in his basement/laboratory in scenes equally as memorable. Gwen Stacy should be fun. The pictures reveal her tending to his wounds after a battle, with him still in costume. So apparently she knows he’s Spider-man very early on. MJ didn’t fully know until the end of SM2. Point is, the dynamic and approach is much different, so even if this is an origins tale, it’s a more thorough one. It has potential to be very fresh.

    • Levi
“Even so, Rob Donner had Superman playing football in the original Superman flick, didn’t he?”

It was ‘Richard’ Donner actually and no. In the original film he had Clark be the equipment manager for the football team. When Clark talks to his adoptive father of the issue in not being able to play or other things, “is it really showing off”, making the point that naturally being able to run a touchdown in the blink of an eye is like a bird being able to fly.

While Clark makes his point, his adoptive father agreeing, Clark is told of the possible dangers of exposing himself to the world. Clark’s adoptive father explains that while he may not know the reasons as to why he is even on earth it has to be more important than passing the old pig skin around. It’s a very heart touching scene which aids to build character upon the person Clark will be in the future as Superman.

My first impressions of being told of an impending reboot were negative at first until I looked at the Spiderman trilogy and realized it’s probably for the best. The first Spiderman was gold. The second was ok. The third was complete and utter crap and I’d tell it to Sam Raimi’s face if I could. Much of what ruined the third movie is three things: Venom failed at being Venom, Emo Peter Parker being a complete D-Bag, and the butler Bernard. So after much reflection I welcome the reboot before a number four could sink any lower. I just can’t bring myself to want to watch this part of the movie once it’s released.

    • kick Ass, Iron Man and Batman were all original takes on origins.
      This…is not.

Sorry I don’t want to sit through a movie I watched ten years ago. I dont understand why you have this much faith in sony. People actually criticize ramis work, but sony was cutting him off at the balls for every film. What makes you think this one will be any better?

spider-Man 2 was an awesome movie and prolly the best out of the series, including this one. And rami had to threaten quitting so we could get it the way he saw it. Now sonys just gone with an up and coming director and cast because they wont challenge them.

Tobey as Spidey for life loser.

  11. i would have GREATLY prefered the red fabric he used for the “spider-Mugger” type mask (black hat and glasses) was what was used for the red parts on the final spidey suit. Aside from my dislike of certain costume details, this movie looks very promising.

  12. I just expect a certain amount of quipage from spidey. Didnt get much of that from the Raimi films

  13. Spiderman 2 ok? Not imo, The second one was easily the best imo, Doc Ock was a far more accurate and interesting villain than Green Goblin, the fight scenes were straight out of the comics and everything was just ramped up from the first one. 3 is certainly watchable, i think it gets more hate than is neccessary but its def the worst of the 3. Again i think Sandman was portrayed almost perfect and his cg was excellent. It dragged on a bit and Venom was weak as hell but i actually got a laugh out of “Dark” Peter.

  14. Different, but if it’s shot well with a good story people will like it. The Toby MacGuire movies were played out.

  15. I’m looking forward to the reboot next year. I enjoyed the first 2 never saw the third one but I should catch it soon so I can see what ever happened in that series. I hope this reboot will be as good as the first 2 if not better.

  16. Spiderman actually looks cool for a change.

  17. this does look great. i kinda hope the webshooters are made to help his organic web abilities, others then that i dont want to see first person web swinging threw the whole film but in some spots it could work well. also the next villain they use has to be his take on doc ock, goblin, carnage, and venom. if they use a side villain for a little chase scene they should use scorpion. but this looks very good.

  18. Despite all of the hate I’m looking forward to this. If you check out Sugar Rush you’ll see that Andrew can be a huge dork and look the part of a “Puny Parker”. But the kid also cleans up nice and can be a suave Spiderman. Emma Stone looks great (as always). Either way I think they chose the right actors for these parts. The only thing I don’t like are the small golden eyes and the overuse of blue on the costume. Hopefully the lizard messes up the costume so much that there is a re-design in the sequel.

  19. Watch new trailer at http://www.noyr.net/trailers/spider-man

  20. Check out ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Interviews with Marc Webb and Emma Stone! http://bit.ly/pZUN5j

  21. ok, so basically i love spider man even i’m a gal. i’m totally into this hero things… the first 3 were totally awesome..i got positive comments and a little bit of negative. The amazing spider man, for me, is gonna be great.. coz i love both andrew garfield and emma stone. and i seriously digging the effects and all..

  22. i for one will watch because
if it’s new i’ll try anything once
but the images look familiar somehow
rather except for the new Mary Jane
of course she looks hot,but no one can
    replace Kirsten Dunst beautiful young
lady and Tobey I hate to admit was
indeed the webslinger i loved the actor who
played J.J. he was cool . Good luck with the
    reboot.

  23. Im.’m really looking forward to see Gwen Stacy die in the movie, I don’t think its gonna happen in the first one though, but in the second one(if any), she MUST be killed, MJ is the (truly) love interest of Spider-Man not Gwen
