[UPDATE: A similar image was released featuring the Green Goblin. Scroll to check it out.]

In case you somehow missed Sony’s intense marketing push for its upcoming blockbuster sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the next chapter in the saga of superhero Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) will hit theaters in a couple of months. We’ve seen an amazing amount of PR for this sequel, including a featurette about Garfield’s return to the role and several potentially misleading clips narrated by Stan Lee.

The film’s producers recently spoke about the various planned spinoff films set within the Spider-Man universe, including Sinister Six and Venom, but while actual story details are still apparently in the broad outline stage, we do know that Marc Webb will be directing The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is scheduled for release on June 10th, 2016.

When it comes to the movie universe’s bad guys, Webb has addressed the number of villains in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, essentially stating that Peter Parker needs a certain amount of obstacles. Webb also noted that classic comic book villain Aleksei Sytsevich, A.K.A. The Rhino (played by Paul Giamatti) is “in the movie for four minutes.”

We may speculate that those must be an important four minutes, since the Rhino has been prominently featured in Sony’s marketing. Now, we have an advance teaser image of Spidey and the Rhino, courtesy of the Facebook page for Spider-Man Movie IndiaWe’re also told that the film’s final trailer will be released in four days, with the page stating:

Are you ready for the ultimate showdown? The final trailer for The Amazing #SpiderMan 2 is almost here…

Placing the Rhino front and center in all this marketing speaks to the assumption that the end credits of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be teasing certain additional villains. This makes sense, given the understanding that the nefarious corporate entity OsCorp – run by Norman Osbourne (Chris Cooper) and/or (?) his son Harry (Dane DeHaan) – still holds secrets about Peter’s father Dr. Richard Parker and his research. Plus, the OsCorp tower is prominently featured in this new teaser image.

We know that Peter Parker/Spider-Man will survive his “greatest challenge yet,” but we’ve been given remarkably strong hints that his victory – in whatever form it takes (Webb has spoken of an “upbeat” ending) – his personal life may never be the same. Sony has some serious long-term plans for this movie universe, and come what may, hopes are still high. We’ll find out for sure how well this sequel both continues Spidey’s saga and builds up this inter-connected universe this May.

  1. Rhino sucks. I remember he was defeated once by Spider-men with pepper and a heat gun.

    • hahaha

  2. WTF? Rhino was a fat dude in a grey hardened suit. That looks like a Transformer. I’m sick of all the techy modernizations of comic book characters. They were supposed to be silly in nature, with colorful suits and ridiculous powers. These attempts to make them look “realistic” -because any generic tech-related always looks plausible to people for some reason- are baffling.

    • Like Electro, his original suit wouldn’t translate well to the big screen.

    • Just because a comic is silly that doesn’t mean a movie should be. Besides, the comic book Rhino is way too large to fit your average criminal turned rampaging maniac. So yes. A larger suit is necessary to make the character as intimidating and imposing as possible. I promise you if they put Paul Giamatti in a hardened grey suit that somehow made him 8 or 9 feet tall, people would like that LESS than a mechanized suit.

    • Rawr Rawr my childhood Rawr Rawr comics.

      • +10000000000000000

      • This. This is it.

      • Shut up, what childhood? I’m 26 and never read a comic book in my childhood. I started reading the Marvel comics from the 60s onwards about 3 years ago. I’m simply complaining about how they deviate from the source material.

Also, stop saying things like “but they’re basing it on the Ultimate version”, well, then don’t call the movie AMAZING Spider-Man. Call it ULTIMATE and be done with it.

    • I thought it looked like a cheap throwback of a robotisized pteradactyl from a Japanese sci-fi movie from about the 50s or 60s, like a mechanical Rodan or something. Rhino is just a big tubbo with a grey Halloween costume on with a horn on his head in nthe comics, not impressive at all. I have beaten tougher guys in street-fights in my younger days, and not broken a sweat (maybe no sweat because I use Old Spice pit-stick every day?). Even teen-aged Spiderman could take Rhino’s “horn” and blow it with a rooty-toot-toot like a party-horn and pop that old fat-boy’s ear-lobes! Forget Rhino, let’s trot out real villains like Mysterio and Scorpion. As wrestler Bill Goldberg would have said, “Whos’ next?!”

      • Next Japanese sci-fi flick: “Giant Mechano-Rhino vs. Franken-Tin-Woodsman”!

    • I agree 100 percent.

  3. Concerned now that this movie will be Spider-Man 3 all over again.

That isn’t what the Rhino looks like – He’s a great character who was a favourite villian of The Hulk too !

Marvel Studio Movies – seem to stick close to the comic book designs. I hope I’m wrong and the movie fantastic.

  4. Maybe he’ll be defeated easily in this junkyard mech-suit, then skulk away only to return sometime in the future with his grey skinned look.

    • He’ll be featured in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Paul already confirmed his involvement.

      • ….sitting in jail like Mandarin One-Shot from Marvel, muttering, “I coulda, woulda, shoulda; just about to make my move, and then…!”

  5. What’s up with the mecha suits? First Silver Samurai, now Rhino? Can’t say I’m appalled as Rhino was never a strong villain to begin with, in my opinion.

  6. I think the ultimate version of R.H.I.N.O. was a creative way of remaking the character. So this one might be good. The Silver Samurai never had a robotic armor in any version whatsoever. To me, TASM2 may still be in the right direction.

  7. Rhino only have 4 minutes screen time ?

Guess he’ll be back in Sinister Six movie.

    • Only 4 minutes? Heck, it’ll take me longer than that to run to the lobby for more popcorn, give me a break! I’m not The Flash…!

  8. Holy sh*t are they still making trailers for this movie?

  9. Im sick and tired of Producers making the characters look different then they should, The Rhino suit Sucks in this movie I was hoping hed carry a suit like this in the movie
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ajkHpBGEx-o/UYFJTYxThlI/AAAAAAAACSc/y31R8ywgmTQ/s1600/paul-giamatti-could-be-the-rhino-in-the-amazing-spider-2.jpg They always kill off the way they make the characters same thing with the Goblin they always want to use Bio Tech suits rather then the origional suit

    • That looks terrible. Save for the horn, it looks like a grey Shrek.

      • I used to work with a bald guy who we called Shrek…looked just like him except for the color. or like Mr. Clean, or a bowling-ball, or Pac-Man!!

    • Yeah, looks terrible, what were they thinking by looking towards the Ultimate Spider-Man comic books as inspiration for the suit designs?

  10. why could they create the Rhino using the way they did with the Lizard in the first Movie? I mean they did a good job on the lizard in the first film, Damn I was really hoping for a real Rhino Appearance not a Transformer

  11. Electro the same thing they should have made him the Original version I like the green and yellow version of him better

  12. What the hell is this monstrosity I am looking at?

  13. Everyone is getting so butthurt over the Rhino design. It does look like a Transformer, but his suit will probably get destroyed in this one, him get arrested, leading to his involvement in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Sinister Six. He’ll probably get a proper incarnation in TASM3 and S6

  14. Attention pretentious geek fans. pls calm thyselves, for they are doing the ultimate version of rhino. This might be a prototype rhino, as well as the green goblin. Calm thyselves

    • I’m afraid this whole comment is the most “pretentious”/self proclaimed know-it-all comment in the whole thread.

    • The movie is The AMAZING Spider-Man. Ultimate is a different comic. They shouldn’t mix canons.

  15. Marc Webb Says ‘The Rhino’ Will Only Be In The Amazing Spiderman… then WHY THE LUCK IS ON TRAILERS, POSTERS AND PROMOTIONALS???? WHY?? why not kept it just like a simple cameo? ill tell you why: to sell official toys of the movie. this spiderman is just a copy of raimi´s suit, recicled advertisement…
remember this: TASM 2: Rise of Electro WILL SUCK BIG TIME!

  16. why why WHY are they releasing so much about the movie? No mystery left over at all

  17. What realy upsets me is that at first the suit in the Amazing Spiderman 1 wasnt too great poorly done, now that they figured that out for this one and decided to go with the Sam Raimi version I hope they soon realize they did the same with Electro and Rhino on there suits including The Goblin, why does everything have to be about Robots? If you look on the trailer they already thinking of releasing the Volture with Robotic Wings rather then Incarnated Wings to make him look like a real Volture the only one that should look like they have robotic figures is Doc Ock thats it every other villian should be Incarnated this includes: Volture, Rhino, The Scorpion, The Lizard, Venom

  18. Too many ridiculous complaints above.

  19. For people complaining about the Rhino mechsuit go look up Ultimate Spiderman Rhino. This Rhino is based from the Ultimate Spidey universe. Not the 616 Spiderman Rhino. Sheesh

  20. Who designs these posters? Every single one I’ve seen of this film have been just terrible. It hasn’t hurt my anticipation for the movie or anything but they really need to get another graphic designer lol.

  21. Looks like a metal chicken or something out of an old Godzilla movie. Mecha Chicken?

  22. I haven’t watched a trailer for this since the first one came out.

  23. Stick to reading the old comics, if you can’t stand a different version. Waah, waah!!!

  24. I think the best villain that would translate onto the big screen in the Spider-Man Universe would be Kraven the Hunter. Just imagine him wanting to hunt down Spidey like game. That would be grounds for an epic Spider-Man movie.

  25. I don’t see what the big deal is. Every trailer released so far as contained pretty much the SAME footage, with a couple small extra scenes added in for overseas markets maybe. So what if they’ve realised 3 trailers, we haven’t seen any new footage since the first trailer in my opinion.

  26. I’ll say it again, just in case. It’s The AMAZING Spider-Man. If they want to make a movie about the Ultimate version, they should call it that.
