After acquiring his powers and facing off against the Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man, things are going to get stepped up a notch for Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which will introduce Electro, Green Goblin and Rhino amongst potentially even more villains and supervillains. Based on the trailers so far, it looks like we'll be in for quite the series of epic super-powered brawls.

While all that is going on, however, Gwen Stacy isn't content to just sit at home darning Peter's spider socks. Having graduated Valedictorian and been accepted in Oxford University, she's getting ready to leave her superhero boyfriend and set out for a new life in England. It's a difficult situation. Peter could simply relocate to Oxford and spend his days rounding up the drunk students who go out on a Saturday night to write graffiti in Latin, but that would leave New York without a superhero to defend it.

The potential impending separation of the two lovebirds is the subject of a new featurette released today over at Mail Online. Peter and Gwen (real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone) continue to engage in endearing banter, but in interview clips with the actors and production team it's hinted that the two of them are headed towards a make-or-break point.

Gwen and Peter in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Those who are familiar with the way the Gwen Stacy/Peter Parker romance played out in the comics might think that they know what's coming, especially given the fact that Gwen wears a pretty iconic outfit in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and is present for a showdown between Spider-Man and Green Goblin, but there's no guarantee that things will play out the same way in the movie version.

What's interesting about the dilemma facing Peter and Gwen is that it's not a problem exclusive to superheroes. Plenty of young sweethearts have to make hard decisions about whether to sacrifice love in favor of following their dreams. Of course, not everyone has the luxury of being able to write "I LOVE YOU" in huge letters on a bridge as a romantic gesture.
