Amanda Tapping Says Stargate SG-1 Movie Is A Go

A few weeks back, I was rummaging around IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) working on a small task and I noticed something very interesting.  Actors Amanda Tapping, Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks all have an “Untitled Stargate: SG-1 Project” in their credits.

Now mind you, IMDB isn’t the end all to all information but it’s a pretty decent start to most news.

So I had been wondering about this in the back of my mind because I thought the projects, though approved, were put on hold.  Then I came across a tidbit on Sci Fi Wire where Amanda Tapping says that a new Stargate SG-1 movie could start getting underway as soon as Stargate Universe filming comes to a close.
Martin Wood is slated to direct with Carl Binder and Brad Wright writing (Per IMDB).

The last time we heard about the Stargate movies around a month ago, the strength, or lack thereof with the DVD market was weighing in on their decision on whether or not to move ahead with these projects. But the news about the newest Stargate SG-1 movie getting the green light is great news.

They must have heard the fans clamoring for more and now I find myself looking forward to when the next Stargate Atlantis film might get underway as well! Sorry… getting greedy.

    The reason the films for SG-1 and SGA haven't been made yet is because the industry has been hit hard financially. SG-1 straight-to-DVD films were a lucrative venture, with "Continuum" and "The Ark of Truth" boasting solid sales. And because the industry has been hit financially, it posed a challenge to any new productions in the once-lucrative DVD premiere market.

    Interest is piqued thanks to "Stargate: Universe," and the scripts have been written. But it may be some time until the next Stargate films come to life on DVD.

    Fans of the Stargate franchise can be rest assured that these films not being produced will in no way affect this fall's newest television offering, "Universe," as they are intended to be standalone features.

    "The 'Atlantis' one takes place shortly after the end of Season 5," Cooper said."SG-1," in the meantime, "takes place sometime in an intermediary period when the 'SG-1' movies left off and when 'Universe' began."

    Woot, glad RDA will be in it... Hope he'll be a main character this time, not just a small part in the beginning and end like before...

    Didn't some big wig of the SG fronchise just finish saying that there were no plans to move forward with either of the new movies? And wasn't that said just after the Amanda Tapping interview this article is talking about?

    IMBD is not correct (they're only about 95% correct - even a monkey could input data in that site). Nor was the article on SciFiwire.com correct at first; however, they quickly changed its title to reflect its error. While the scripts are written, MGM has yet to give the go-ahead to actually film the movie(s).

    Joshi: Eh? They've all been good movies so far.

    WF: Tapping was quoted saying "may get done by the end of the year. That's what everyone is hoping, at least."

    The article still says: "The SG-1 movie is green-lighted, and the Atlantis film is in the works"

    And they do acknowledge that things have to wait until after Universe is done filming and probably after Sanctuary gets wrapped.

    The pilot for SG1 was pretty intense, don't get tired of watching that.

    I'm glad theres going to be a new movie but I'm not at all happy that Vala wont be reintroduced. I mean how are they going to write off her character? last we knew of her she was a permanent members of SG-1 and without the her and Daniel thing the third movie wont be nearly as much fun. Maybe my info is old but so I'm still holding out hope that they'll change their minds and will have Vala in the movie. I think a lot of fans were sorta under the impression that the Daniel and Vala thing was still a go, I mean they never said they were going to make them end up together but the implications are all there! What does everyone else think about this?
