Aliens vs Predator 2 Trailer: Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

avp2 trailer Aliens vs Predator 2 Trailer: Dont Get Your Hopes UpI think the tagline for Aliens vs Predator: Requiem should be:

Abandon Ye All Hope

And I’m not referring to the characters in the movie… I’m talking about the audience.

The first trailer for AVP2 is out, and be warned that this is a “Red Band” trailer. Meaning it is not approved for all audiences, has tons of gore, violence and R-rated language.

Within the first 20 seconds, before a single character had appeared on the screen I already had my first “uh oh” moment. The trailer opens with the classic tagline from the original Alien:

In space no one can hear your scream.

Except here it goes like this:

In space…

Cut to a spaceship flying by, with a very definite engine whooshing sound.

…no one can hear you scream.

Cut to the same ship pulling away, again with loud whooshing sound.

So I guess the deal is that although in space no one can hear you scream, you can hear the sound of spaceships flying by…

To me this looks bad, bad, BAD. I’m sorry, but the very first thing that bugs me is that right off the bat the movie is populated with a bunch of under 25 year olds. I got flashbacks to Transformers not only from that, but from scenes that followed. It felt like a cross between that and one of the Friday the 13th sequels with Aliens substituted for Jason Voorhees.

I had really hoped beyond hope that this one wouldn’t stink like the first one, but unless this trailer is completely misrepresenting the movie those hopes have gone flying out the window.

I’d love to hear what you think about it.

For larger versions of the trailer head on over to IGN, which premiered it.

  1. Sorry for the grammar in that.

  2. I’m going to be controversial and agree with Ellindar on the LOTR/Star Wars comparison… since I think that’s seriously overestimating the appeal and intent of the Alien/Predator franchises.

But, Ellindar, why are you even posting on a film forum when you clearly miss the point of their existence?

I, too, enjoyed the first AvP film as a fun popcorn flick… but that’s because I was never all that into either franchise to begin with. Unlike you, though, I could see why it upset die hard fans. Alien, in particular, was always an uber-serious sci-fi franchise… and Predator wasn’t far behind.

Thing is… taking these two properties and making nothing more than a fun popcorn flick is like expecting fans of The Simpsons and Family Guy to enjoy a hybrid of those shows in which the tongue-in-cheek comedy is replaced with serious romance and drama.

And, while we’re at it, isn’t it interesting that you clearly have films you dislike – ie. Pathfinder – and tell people they’re being snobbish – in your own high and mighty way – yet, because you personally enjoyed AvP, you have to be ‘right’.

There’s no right or wrong – only opinion. Just don’t be a complete jerk and insult people.

  3. I never said they were wrong, just that I completely disagree with the way they make it sound that their opinion is of course the right one.

Second, I completely disagree with you on your analysis and here is why:

Aliens was yes, a franchise, of which a couple were pretty bad as it was. But Alien VS Predator… is NOT a part of the alien franchise. I mean seriously, it’s ALIEN VS PREDATOR.

And I’m 37 and have followed the franchise religiously. The difference is, is that I know when a movie is ‘supposed’ to be released as a popcorn movie, and when it is supposed to be released as a serious flick.

And sorry to say, but the title itself just screams popcorn guys. It’s really just not as big of a deal as you try to make it out to be. Disagree all you want, I just get a kick out of people who take everything way too seriously.

  4. Dude, whatever. As was stated above, why even come to these sites?

There are plenty of movie sites out there that deliver news without editorial content. I suggest you hang out at or if you don’t want to hear people’s opinions.
