Fan art imagines what famous horror film Alien would look like if it was made into a Pixar film. The original Alien is typically regarded as one of the best horror/ sci-fi movies of all time. Made in 1979, Alien focused on the crew of the space ship Nostromo as they dealt with a deadly alien onboard. Alien received high praise for its smart writing, iconic monster designs, and great acting from lead actress Sigourney Weaver. Weaver's portrayal of crew member Ellen Ripley led to her becoming an icon in the genre as she evolved from scared crew member to hardened survivor.

The Alien franchise was distributed by 20th Century Fox, which means it's now part of Disney's ever-expanding media empire (the Mouse House's acquisition of Fox's entertainment assets became official last year). Disney's spent the past several years accumulating a vast number of popular properties under their umbrella, including the acclaimed Pixar Animation Studios. Pixar is best known for their heartwarming family films and wouldn't look to tackle something in the vein of Alien. But new fan art mashes the two together for an amusing package.

Book designer Daniel Beeneworth-Gray has shared art on Twitter from Monica Ion that shows a few scenes from Alien in a cutesy cartoon style. We get to see Ellen chilling with Jones the cat, members of the crew exploring the derelict alien ship, and the iconic chest burster scene that was so good, even Stanley Kubrick wanted to know how it was done. The art is able to be simple, but also capture the unique character and set designs that made Alien so memorable. Make sure to check it out and share your opinions on it down below.

The contrast between the nightmare-inducing Alien and family-friendly Pixar makes this a rather unique collection of art pieces. While they're both owned by Disney, they couldn't be further apart from each other thematically, so it's an amusing juxtaposition for fans of the two to appreciate - not to mention the only taste of this crossover fans will ever get. Still, looking at these illustrations, it's fun to think about how Pixar might try to remake Alien as a family-friendly sci-fi film, or if they would embrace the terror the original film provides (they do enjoy their Shining Easter eggs). The adorable chest burster running amok would certainly be a memorable image.

This fan art also calls to mind the diverging paths Alien and Pixar are on currently. The latter remains one of the premier animation studios in Hollywood, coming off the highly-successful Toy Story 4 (which grossed $1 billion at the box office and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature). In contrast, Alien's future is in a bit of a holding pattern. The script for Alien 5 is still in the planning phase, and it's unlikely that film will ever see the light of day. Ridley Scott's plans for a third Alien prequel have also stalled following Alien: Covenant's mixed reception. Sadly for Alien fans, this bit of Pixar fan art might be the most new content they see in a while.
