[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead.]

With the Ghost Rider story behind them, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has pressed forward with a renewed focus on Life Model Decoys. The replica androids were introduced at the beginning of the season with Aida and have since taken on many new identities. One of the big reveals midway through the season was that May had been replaced with an LMD for a number of episodes without anyone knowing, but that is only the beginning.

At the end of the latest episode, Fitz and Simmons discover that someone has tampered with the LMD detection equipment because someone had been swapped out during their attack on The Superior's base. However, as they discovered shortly after, more than just one agent was swapped. In fact, next week will see Fitz and Simmons be the lone core characters left that have to fend off LMD versions of their friends.

Marvel/ABC (via Television Promos) released the promo for next week's episode, titled 'Self Control,' and brings the LMD invasion to full force. Fitz and Simmons are now left to fight off LMD versions of Daisy, Coulson, Mace, Mack, and a restored May. The clip makes it clear that this will be a difficult task for the two lab rats, but they won't go down without a fight. Meanwhile, CBR has unveiled a new poster for the upcoming episode:

After just utilizing the LMD concept to switch up one character to this point, it is great to see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. embracing the craziness that can be the result of them. Having Aida swap out the big hitters within S.H.I.E.L.D. as LMDs, leaving just Fitz and Simmons to fend them off is a genius plan and should result in a fun FitzSimmons centric episode.

However, as explained in the last episode, there was a period of time where nobody was in communication with anyone else. It would not be entirely surprising to see the show take this concept for another twist and have Fitz or Simmons also be a secret LMD. Even if that does not happen, it is clear that the remaining real life agents will have their hands full trying to stop the LMD takeover Aida has set into motion.

Story points aside, having more actors play LMD versions of themselves should be interesting to watch as well. Mallory Jansen has seemingly mastered the art of playing a robot on a week to week basis, while Ming-Na Wen did an excellent job as LMD May as well. Seeing Chloe Bennet, Clark Gregg, Jason O'Mara, and Henry Simmons take on this challenge should provide for one more fun layer to next week's episode.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 continues with ‘Self Control’ Tuesday, February 21 at 10pm on ABC.
