Before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. went on its spring hiatus, the show dropped its biggest cliffhanger to date. After three and a half seasons of fleshing out the mythology of the spy organization, cleaning up after the Avengers, and introducing the Kree, Inhumans, LMDs, and Ghost Rider to the MCU, S.H.I.E.L.D. pulled all their story threads together into the beginnings of a new arc. With nearly every member of the team brought inside the Framework, a virtual reality where past mistakes and regrets are rewritten, the remainder of this season will see SHIELD the organization replaced with a thriving Hydra.

No one's quite sure which events led to the survival and growth of the organization, but it could be posited that with Coulson choosing not to be an agent, he unraveled the very formation of the Avengers; not to mention, their subsequent take-down of Hydra. In fact, even much of the task of dismantling Hydra played out on S.H.I.E.L.D., with the Avengers mostly doing clean-up in Age of Ultron. Inside this new reality, a number of things will be upended. Part of that will mean those who have died may come back to life. We've already know Ward will return, and another agent may as well. Sadly, Bill Paxton won't be reprising his role as Agent Garrett, but we've got plenty of other suggestions for who could return.

Now, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Twitter account has shared reworked posters from the past four seasons, teasing how things would have looked with Hydra in charge. Check them out, below.

Fun as they are, these posters shouldn't be thought about too deeply. After all, they are fraught with continuity errors. S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't have been under Hydra's control until the end of season 1, and Coulson shouldn't even be on any of these posters if they were truly from "inside the Framework." Add in very different paths for FitzSimmons, and Ward's turned back no longer being symbolic from season 2, and these don't hold up to scrutiny. Luckily, we know these posters are just meant to get us excited for the new status quo, once the show returns.

The last poster is actually strikingly similar to another recently released piece of promotion for the show which simply added a Hydra logo behind the agents from the season 4 poster. Still, it's fun to think of the past seasons and episodes of the show through the lens of Hydra. There are a lot of places the show could go when it returns, so anticipation is high for the series to come back next month. Meanwhile, the latest batch of set photos from the Inhumans shoot in Hawaii have revealed a possible connection to S.H.I.E.L.D. It'll be interesting to see how an empowered Hydra feels about the Inhumans inside the Framework.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 continues Tuesday, April 4th at 10 pm on ABC.
