In the closing moments of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 fans saw Mack and Coulson back in the field on the hunt for Daisy, who had since taken up the mantle Quake. The surprise was not Daisy’s two closest friends from S.H.I.E.L.D. were looking for her, but that Coulson had been replaced as director. Since then it was announced that Jason O’Mara will be playing the new director, but details on the character are still being kept under wraps.
Much of the season 4 promotion has been devoted to letting people know Ghost Rider is coming, but that doesn’t mean viewers aren’t curious to learn what the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. will bring to the series. Audiences will have to wait an extra week to meet the new director, but now stills from his debut episode have been released.
ABC (via MCUExchange) has released seven new photos from the second episode of the season titled ‘Meet the New Boss.’ The synopsis for the episode teases O’Mara’s arrival to the series and gives a first look at the anticipated meeting between him and Coulson. Fans were given their first look at O’Mara a few weeks ago, but now they can see him sharing the same screen as the man he is replacing.
It is unlikely that the conversation between Coulson and the new director is the first time they’ve met, but it should still be interesting to watch, just to establish what type of relationship they have. In addition to showing the new director and Coulson, these photos depict whatever adventures Fitz and Mack have found themselves a part of. Both appear very concerned and curious for what they have stumbled upon, which could mean the discovery doesn’t mean anything good.
The synopsis hints at the director taking the organization in a new direction. Earlier it was teased that his plan could include apprehending the former S.H.I.E.L.D.-agent-turned-vigilante Daisy, the means of which could put him at odds with Coulson. Meanwhile, whatever room Fitz and Mack are currently in, it clearly has high security and looks unlike most normal rooms. This could be the latest innovation in their power disabling rooms, and specifically one designed to house Daisy. Then again, Fitz will be working more with Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah) this season, so this could be one of his secret projects. Whatever the case may be, viewers will have their questions answered in just a few weeks.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 premieres Tuesday, September 20 @10pm on ABC.
