The showrunners of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have once again provided their annual cryptic teases for the season finale, providing fans with plenty to mull over until tonight’s episode. While each season of SHIELD has added new wrinkles to the MCU and adapted a number of elements from the comics, season four has woven together a number of intriguing concepts with far reaching consequences for the future of the show. From the complexities of the Framework, to just about everything involving Ghost Rider and the Darkhold, there’s been no shortage of mysteries for fans to wrap their heads around.
With the news that tonight’s finale will be followed up by another season, it’s safe to assume that we’ll see teases for next year in the climax of the episode. The producers have already teased as much, hinting that Ghost Rider might play into the plot of next season, and we’ll likely learn more tonight. Not only will Robbie and the agents be facing off against AIDA and her new powers, but they’ll be working against the clock to stop her master plan to rewrite reality. And while the events could unfold in any number of ways, the people behind the show have decide to give us some hints as to what we can expect.
Every year, showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen and producer Jeffrey Bell provide EW with five cryptic clues for the season finale. This year is no different, so check out the hints below and see what you make of them.
- There’s a room with a view.
- There’s a bridge to nowhere.
- There’s a toast.
- Does anyone want pie?
- Burrows is still looking for bars.
It’s hard to glean much other than a possible happy ending given the toast and promise of pie – though toasts on this show generally lead to tears. The only substantive one involves Burrows, as the agent is dead in the main reality. That means he’ll have at least one more moment in the spotlight inside the Framework, likely connected to Yo-Yo trying to pull Mack out of the virtual world.
As for everything else, there’s hardly enough to hang any real theories on given how vague they are. Luckily, the finale is less than half a day away, so we won’t have to wait much longer to know how things have unfolded. With everything that’s been set up this season, there’s no telling how things will end or who will make it out alive. No matter how things shake out, though, there will be plenty of plot left to feed into next season.
Last summer made a splash with the announcement that Ghost Rider was coming to TV, so we can probably expect a similarly juicy reveal this year. The tag from the season finale even introduced the LMDs to the MCU, so it’s safe to assume something equally as tantalizing will be unveiled at the end of tonight’s episode. When it does, come back for our breakdown of what it all means.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 concludes tomorrow, May 16th, with ‘World’s End’ on ABC.
