Spun off from Captain America: The First Avenger and the Marvel One-Shot of the same name, Agent Carter season 1 followed Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) as she maneuvered through life as the only female agent at the Strategic Scientific Reserve. For the show's second season, Agent Carter is heading to 1940s Los Angeles where the titular character will battle "a more sinister threat" that takes the form of Marvel Comics villainess Madame Masque.

Already confirmed to return for Agent Carter season 2 are Atwell, of course, Enver Gjokaj as Daniel Sousa, and James D'Arcy as Edwin Jarvis. Now, during the Marvel TV panel at New York Comic Con, more cast members -- both old and new -- have been confirmed for the second season.

Deadline is reporting that Wynn Everett (The Newsroom) has joined Agent Carter for season 2 as villain Whitney Frost, a.k.a. Madame Masque, "a Hollywood actress and brilliant inventor." Lotte Verbeek (The Fault In Our Stars) has been added as Ana Jarvis, wife to Edwin Jarvis, a free-spirited woman who quickly befriends Peggy and helps the agent acclimate to Los Angeles. Currie Graham (Pompeii) and Reggie Austin (Devious Maids) join as new characters Calvin Chadwick, Masque's husband, and Jason Wilkes, "a quirky yet charismatic scientist who instantly charms Peggy," respectively.

Season 1 stars confirmed to return include Dominic Cooper, who was introduced as Howard Stark alongside Peggy in The First Avenger, and Bridget Regan as the Black Widow agent Dottie. Atwell started rumors earlier this year about Cooper being involved in season 2, but those remained confirmed until recently. Additionally, Chad Michael Murray was announced to return for season 2 this summer as SSR Agent Jack Thompson.

Madame Masque shoots a few men in Marvel Comics.

Given the character descriptions, it's clear that Everett will take on the role of the season's main villain, though Agent Carter showrunners have teased more than one foe for Peggy -- perhaps they were referring to the return of Dottie. As for the others, it seems Ana may be taking on the role as Peggy's best friend, indicating Lyndsy Fonseca may not be returning as Peggy's New York friend Angie Martinelli. Additionally, Jason Wilkes may be Peggy's new love interest that has been teased for season 2, while Calvin Chadwick could be another new villain alongside Madame Masque.

That being said, how each of these characters will fit into Agent Carter season 2 largely remains to be seen until we know more about Peggy's sophomore outing. However, with Agent Carter set to air during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s midseason break, it hopefully won't be too long before a trailer for season 2 debuts.
